About the Author

Tanya Huff may have left Nova Scotia at three, and has lived most of her life since in Ontario, but she still considers herself a Maritimer. On the way to the idyllic rural existence she shares with her partner Fiona Patton, six cats, and a chihuahua, she acquired a degree in Radio and Television Arts from Ryerson Polytechnic—an education she was happy to finally use while writing her recent Smoke novels. Of her previous twenty-three books, the five—Blood Price, Blood Trail, Blood Lines, Blood Pact, Blood Debt—featuring Henry Fitzroy, bastard son of Henry VIII, romance writer, and vampire are among the most popular.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

“Huff delves into an overwhelming yet improbably seamless mix of steampunk, epic fantasy, and paranormal romance…. Huff fans who prefer her second-world fantasy tales (e.g., the Quarters series) will be pleased by this return to the form.”—Publishers Weekly

"The way that Huff tied all of the strings together from this epic journey was masterful. She paid equal attention to her characters as she did her world-building, resulting in a seamless whole. The melding of science, magic, era-specific technology, superstition, war and how ordinary people can do extraordinary things was captivating."—The Book Pushers

"[Huff] knows not only how to world build, but how to build magic systems and do phenomenal characterizations. Her experience shows on every page of The Silvered.... Books this good don’t come along that often. The Silvered is a well-planned, well executed adventure tale. I loved it. Completely."—The Ranting Dragon

"The Silvered paints a fascinating society based on the symbiosis of mage and wolf-pack, each group partnering and tempering the other."—San Francisco Book Review

"It all adds up to a fun, old-fashioned adventure made new with an interesting magic system.”—Locus

I loved The Silvered. I've enjoyed most of Tanya Huff's science fiction & fantasy both. I only say most because I haven't yet read all of them. I especially enjoyed the Confederation books, but I loved The Silvered for its exciting adventure as well as her superb handling of the various characters. I used to teach middle school English, and as the School Improvement Coordinator, I purchased thousands of paperbacks for the school. I would definitely have purchased copies of The Silvered for some of the gifted students (One memorized entire passages from Tolkien's Trilogy). All of the Various characters grew and changed, and although I had to cheer for Mirian, I enjoyed seeing Captain Reiter evolve. It's a great stand alone, but I hope these characters get another chance in another novel for another adventure and more self-discovery.

Hands down the best fantasy book i've read all year. Werewolves and mages can be so overdone but Huff creates a unique world and great complicated characters...she also shows instead of tells which i don't always realize i miss until i read an author who does it well. Don't pass this one up!

The best book with werewolves I've read in several years! Fast paced, and makes you care about the characters.  Lets you see the conflict of some of those working for a government doing evil.  Even some of the enemy grow and change,

Excellent. If you liked The Fire's Stone, I think you will very much like this one as well. Strong, endearing characters, a plot that keeps moving, but not at a breakneck pace, and story threads that weave in and out of the main story is such a way as to enhance it, rather than make it overly complex.

My only mistake in choosing this book was to do so on a week night! I loved it! I believe I have read most of Huffs books and this was by far the best. Well done!

Excellent delivery of characters and how conflict/ war changes your perspective of society and personal perception. All characters develop throughout the storyline. Interesting weaving of how science, shapeshifting, and magery might impact a society's dynamics. Initial introduction slow but a part of character development.
