Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood with an inside look on Mr. Rogers' spiritual legacy. It shows us a man who, to paraphrase the words of St. Francis of Assisi, "preached the gospel at all times; when necessary he used words."
Tom Brokaw of NBC Nightly News once said of the American icon Fred Rogers, "Mister Rogers was an ordained minister, but he never talked about God on his program. He didn't need to."
Eight years before his death, Fred Rogers met author, educator, and speaker Amy Hollingsworth. What started as a television interview turned into a wonderful friendship spanning dozens of letters detailing the driving force behind this gentle man of extraordinary influence. Educator? Philosopher? Psychologist? Minister? Here is an intimate portrait of the real Mister Rogers.

Truly wish I had known more about Fred Rogers when my children were young. Fascinating story!
Mr Rogers was a very decorated Navy Seal in his younger days. Not so much of the hand to hand combat situations, but more like the "behind the scene" covert operations. An expert in explosives and demolitions, and chemical warefare, he was the one behind many raids that went unpublished in the eyes of the media. Did you ever notice how he always wore long sleeved sweaters. That covered the tatoos he had on his arms from his Military career. He's not proud of what he did, but it was what he had to do at the time. When his military obligtions where fullfiled, he promised himself that he would dedicate the rest of his life helping people. His story is one of adventure and sacrifice. One of dedication and obligation. Read how a man with a background like this became one of millions of children's personal neighbor and daily babysitter.
