Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Snakes have one of the simplest body shapes of all creatures, but that simplicity does not reflect their highly specialized nature and their well-deserved reputation as a fearsome predator. As always, DK has come up with a unique and interesting format. A large paperback book, each spread contains a large single photo of one snake, with a brief description. All of the snakes were photographed in shallow white boxes that were the same proportions as the open book. Consequently, the images are very striking in their similarity. It is a great way to compare the actual bodies of the snakes without being distracted by anything else. The center foldout is the reticulated python, all of which can be 33 feet of muscle. Undulating font sizes add to the interest of these pages of photographs. The final page includes additional information, with a small photo of each of the twelve snakes included in this collection. This is your chance to get an uninterrupted close up look at snakes without having to be fearful. 2000, DK,
