Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite The Snow Cat, The Earth-Watchers Series by Lester Ferguson is a beautiful story of a snow leopard who fights for survival. Hadassah has two cubs, Tadashi the male and Sakura the female, who are named after the nearby lake where they lived. Apart from the dangers of the Siberian Tiger, who is a threat to this leopard family, the real threat comes from the poachers who hunt these animals for many purposes. One day the cubs see their mother being killed by the poachers. Sakura follows the men who take away the lifeless body of her mother. Tadashi is caught by one of the Earth-Watchers and the story is a poignant tale of Tadashi and the Earth-Watcher John. Will Tadashi meet his long lost sister Sakura one day? The story conveys the beautiful message of preserving endangered animals and all animals whose contribution is vital for the continuation of our planet. The story is simple and the illustrations are colorful and they give these snow leopards and other characters a personality. I found the book very educational for children because it speaks to them about the mysterious wildlife that exists in the Himalayas and about the dangers faced by the endangered wild cats there who are hunted down by poachers, thereby reducing their numbers. The book also told me what Earth-Watchers are and what they do. The corruption and greed that exist among people and the destruction caused to the environment because of that is also another theme that the author conveys through this story.
