Finally, an updated, relevant, informative, and well-written handbook for working solo video journalists. So much has changed in this industry in recent years. Matt Pearl, himself a working journalist, identifies precisely the challenges and how to overcome them. Although the book is aimed at reporters, photographers, and producers who are new to this craft, I found myself, a multimedia journalist with a decade of experience, taking lots of mental notes. I know I'll be changing a few aspects of my workflow based on lessons learned in this easy-to-understand and deeply-researched book, which pulls ideas and expertise from a wide range of solo video journalists who are chasing stories all across the country and understand well what it takes to make an impact on-screen. Disclosure -- I am one of the journalists interviewed for the chapter on writing. I am not receiving any financial benefits from the publisher or author and purchased my own copy.
