This was a great book for anyone looking to change their eating habits and become healthier in today's fast paced eating world! The information is useful and informative and very easy to follow! Recommend for anyone who wants to lose weight slowly but consistently and easy to keep on for life.

This is a fun flavorful healthy guilt free way of eating and losing weight at the same time. It's basically the California version (Sonoma Valley wine country) of the Mediterranean way/lifestyle of eating. It emphasizes using fresh whole foods that aren't packaged or canned. For the first time in my life I've really gotten into cooking and enjoy trying the different recipes and seasoning with herbs. You do run out of recipes after awhile though so I wish the companion/sequel book called the "Sonoma Diet cookbook" was still available. I also have had my eye open for a good Mediterranean cookbook but haven't found one I liked yet. Wish we'd known about this last year when we went to Greece. I'm sure they would have a ton of good mediterranean cook books. Also you actually get to drink wine:)

I'm a South Beach Diet dropout because it made me ill, esp Phase I. I didn't give it 5 stars simply because it does require more cooking than usual. I was really drawn to this diet because of my bad cholesterol and wanted a healthy way to lower it, instead of ingesting large amounts of cheese, meat and eggs. I love 'wave 1' because you can eat carbs and keep your energy up while losing weight. Wave 2, which I am in now, you can eat even more carbs and have some wine. I'm really enjoying it and don't feel deprived. I lost 8 pounds in Wave 1 and now going on 10 pounds so far. I think it's way healthier than South Beach, and she doesn't push artifical sweeteners, which I think are bad for you in excess.

I am a teenager with parents who are overweight. Personally I have IBS which is a condition that causes spasms of the colon. I need to eat many small meals throughout the day. This book has allowed me to include my diet needs and my parents' diet needs. This is the best diet ever. I believe anyone that wants to loose weight must have a diet for life. The sonoma diet is for life and has alot of flavor for those of us who like taste and loss of weight.

I gave my first copy away and got another for myself since I like it so much. No measuring, weighing involved, just plate sizes and approximate amounts of each type of food based on the meal and plate size. Good, practical information about diet and the specific function of the type of food-whether the protein, grain or vegetable family and the reasoning behind it. The recipes are great, the program is simple and effective. The food is flavorful, easy to prepare for the most part and there is something for most everybody! It's also easy to adapt to eating out, and there isn't the sense of deprivation that comes with some diets. It's a different way of viewing food and eating, more a lifestyle adjustment than a "diet".

I'm a big fan of Sonoma. Although the first phase is a little rigid like most, it is trying to get you off of the bad stuff, sugar, fats, and white starches. What I like about this diet is that she is teaching you portion control and choosing the right foods, so you can change your habits. Who wants to be obsessed with calories and counting carbs? America is fat because we simply overeat. Think back to just 20 years ago. We ate everything we wanted but guess what...the portions were smaller and obesity was nearly not as rampant as it is now.
