I love cookbooks. Southern girl that I am, I especially love Southern Living magazine, and their wonderful cookbooks, and I have quite a few. This one is no exception, in part because it's a bit of an update of their classic 1972 Party Cookbook. What I don't love quite so much is actually throwing a party, but flipping through this cookbook makes me want to send out some invitations. Beautiful pictures, delicious-sounding new takes on old recipes (can't wait to try the updated Green Bean casserole, nary a can of soup in sight), with lots of little party ideas and advice sprinkled throughout. Casual to fancy, holiday dinner parties to backyard fish fries, brunch to after-theater gatherings, this covers a multitude of occasions, and it's completely lovely to look at. This is definitely a keeper, and one I'll be referring to often. My thanks to Netgalley and Southern Living for providing a copy for an unbiased review.

Exactly what I expected from Southern Living. A beautiful book with mouthwatering recipes. There are tips for everything you need to know to throw a memorable party, from advice on offering a toast to invitations to estimated serving sizes. A fantastic reference book for anyone who wants to throw the perfect party.

I breezed through this gem of a book last night, and am looking forward to trying the recipes and using the entertainment tips. The Southern Living Party Cookbook is clear and concise, broken down into 5 sections (Teas, Coffees, and Receptions; Brunches and Lunches; Come By For A Drink Y'All; Cookouts; Celebrations and Dinners), with droolworthy photos of everything, including gorgeous tablescapes. Fun tips are scattered throughout, and this lovely volume would be great to pick up for yourself (also makes a great coffee table book!) or to give as a gift. Very nicely done!

Gorgeous photos, delectable recipes and practical tips! My favorites are the simple yet elegant recipes like the grilled romaine with charred lemon-feta vinaigrette, strawberries with lemon curd dip and the bourbon infused coffee milk punch. This book contains mouthwatering recipes from front to back.

I'm always leery about an updated cookbook when the original was the holy grail. But Elizabeth Heiskell has outdone herself! I LOVE this version! It's got the old favorites like Champagne Punch, Bourbon Balls, Brandy Alexander and more as well as new takes and favorites like Curried Chicken Salad, and Heirloom Tomato and Avocado Salsa and Blue Corn Chips. With Thanksgiving looming, there are some great recipes to consider, but it's the Fondue Party recipes that are on my list as this is one of our Christmas traditions after the family heads home. So glad I gave this book a shot and it over delivered in every way. This is the new holy grail, and while it may give a nod back at her, it's not your Momma's (original) cookbook! A must have for entertaining!
