Overview

A true example of the power of music to inspire the healing process, Daniel Rodriguez's magnificent operatic voice touched and inspired the folks gathered at Yankee Stadium just after September 11th. He became a hero of another sort, an NYPD cop whose stirring rendition of "God Bless America" captured the resilient spirit and resolve that we had no choice but to embrace and incorporate into our lives after the tragedy. Veteran saxman, musical director, and producer Tom Scott has gone out on tour with Rodriguez, who is quickly becoming a star after stepping into his moment of odd good fortune. His song choices, from "The Lord's Prayer" to "Shenandoah," are designed for spiritual comfort and heartrending patriotism, and Rodriguez's renditions are indeed goosebump-inducing. There are some dramatic, sweeping orchestras, but for the most part they don't overwhelm his voice, which is far more effective on intimate tunes like "Bring Him Home." It's hard to say whether Rodriguez is simply a one-shot phenom, but no one who listens will be sorry he found this strange way to share his gift with the world. It's not surprising that he follows "God Bless America" with "This Is the Moment." We all need shining lights like this.

Editorial Reviews

New York Post
[Rodriguez's] sterling tenor lends Irving Berlin's ode to America new life. Stirring and heartfelt, sans the sap.

Why is it everytime a new tenor comes about, everyone wants to label these tenors as "THE NEXT MARIO LANZA". Give us a break! Rodriguez does not even come close to being a second or third or even a 10th close to Mario Lanza.

As I type, I am listenting to this wonderful CD. Every track is perfection. Track 6, We Will Go On, tugs strongly at my heart on the eve of the 1 year anniversary of 9/11/01. For pure pleasure, you cannot go wrong with this CD!

This outstanding singer has a voice that stands on it's own. He has gained the admiration and respect from those who truly know what good music is all about. Magnificent voice and heart of pure gold!

I've loved this album from the moment I heard it. Daniel Rodriguez has produced other albums after this one, and why not: according to his own admission during a Christophers interview, his goal in life was not to be a policeman, but a Broadway singer. Whether he achieves that longterm goal or not, I think it unjust to compare him to Lanza or anyone else, since the purpose of this album was for Daniel to use his own talents to contribute to the nation's healing after 9/11. Can we please just enjoy the production for what it's intended to be, rather than grade it according to Lanza's or some other tenor's standards? There'll be other albums and time enough to indulge in critical comparisons.
