I loved and enjoyed the suspenseful, thrilling, captivating novel I received free from Goodreads First Reads. Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes are helping Princess Alix solve a case. The case involves Willa Ashton who is trying to find her missing brother and is using spiritual mediums to talk to her dead mother. A spiritglass charade, slewing vampires, and protecting Willa Ashton keep Evaline and Mina busy. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written engaging novel by the best selling author, Colleen Gleason. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed this second book in the series. And am looking forward to the release of the third book that's due to be released in early October. Holmes and Stoker are beginning to get to know one another better - and perhaps growing to grudgingly admire one another's powerful gifts. We also get to know the other 'cast' / secondary members. So much to enjoy about the very atmosphere of the books. Very inventive and novel. Thank you, Ms. Gleason, for such fun reads.

After their success with the case of the Clockwork Scarab, Princess Alix personally asks Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes to investigate a new case. The princess's late friend's daughter Willa has become obsessed with spiritual mediums in an effort to communicate with her deceased mother and find her missing brother. The girls fear someone is trying to drive Willa mad through this fakery and are determined to find who is behind it. The case turns into much more than just some shadey medium out to make a buck. Before it's done, Evaline and Mina will have to investigate a murder, find several missing boys, and prevent Willa from being killed. Oh, and vampires have returned to London, so Evaline finally gets the chance to fulfill her destiny as a Venator. Also there to help or hinder the investigation are Pix, the nefarious underworld hoodlum, Inspector Grayling of Scotland Yard, and Dylan, the time traveler who is trying to find a way back to his time and help out where he can while he's stuck in this time. These guys provide plenty of thrills and chills for the girls that have nothing to do with ghosts or vampires! I love all the descriptions of the steampunk gadgetry and the alternate history. Each installment brings it more to life, and I can see there is much more to explore in this world. The bombshell at the end only has me wanting to read more of this series.

The second in the series, The Spiritglass Charade, continues its complexity with mysteries, plot twists, developing relationships, and the like. Gleason's fascinating series keeps me hoping for more. ***I received a free copy of this book, and in exchange, I have provided an honest review.***

Pure Genius!! After reading the CLOCKWORK SCARAB, I couldn't wait for Evaline and Mina's next case. The Spiritglass Charade was well worth the wait. I love the relationship these two have developed and how well they balance each other. The Spiritglass Charade did not disappoint. I couldn't put it down!

A fine combination of lead characters with each thinking she is the key to success. But, of course, it takes their combination. Multiple odd events which stretch to plausibility of coincidence. But is they are not coincidental, what connects them?
