Very interesting book detailing the events leading up to the seige of Fort McHenry, which is where Francis Scott Key got his inspiration for what was to become the United States National Anthem. Also details the history of the tune (which Key did not write) and followed the path the song took to becoming the National Anthem.

clm- This is one of my favorite reads. I have been to Fort Machenry more than once. This is a good book for teens and adults. With the description of the ships and the amunition used you feel like your in the battle and watching with Francis Scott Keys. It gets a little wordy when they are totaling all the weapons used but you get a great picture of the battle and why we won.

Tony Cross does an excellent job of telling us how Francis Scott Key came to write "The Star Spangled Banner", how the music was chosen, and how it came to be our national anthem. He does so in an extremely easy-to-read style. Some of the background I knew, but not all of it. I highly recommend that all Americans read this book, which is no part of the official history of the writing of the anthem!
