I found the premise of this book interesting when I first saw it online, and it lived up to that impression after I read it.  Basically, the author presents a theory about why so many “amateur” investors fail in the stock market: emotion.  He points out that even people who are in a position to know better, people who actually study the stock market, let emotions (particularly fear and greed) get in the way of making sound decisions when it comes to stocks.   Rather than presenting a get rich quick scheme (there is no shortage of books that do that) this book lays out a rather unique strategy for becoming richer off of stocks by using psychology.  Both by understanding and mastering your own, and understanding the psychology of other investors and using it to your advantage.   The author is extremely knowledgeable about psychological principles and explains how they pertain to successful investing in insightful, easy to understand chapters that start with the overview of why his plan works and the principles behind it, and then get into the specifics of using the principles to make sound decisions about trading.  He uses concrete examples, both from his own experience and from those of super-successful investors like Warren Buffet to show why and how his theory and plan work.  He emphasizes using reasoning rather than emotion and relying on skill rather than luck.  And points out, rightly I think, that most investors actually rely on emotion and luck, whether they know it or not. This isn’t just a book on theories, however.  There is a great deal of concrete information about the market’s behavior, statistics on investment performance, fundamental and technical analyses, valuation ratios, and a lot more, all backed up with real world examples and with the psychological principles behind why each suggestion or example works or doesn’t.  The author emphasizes the importance of frequent, consistent 3% gains as a way to steadily increase your worth through the stock market, but also gives some attention to options like bonds, short selling and Inverse ETFs. This book changed my mindset about investing. I found it interesting, convincing, and easy to follow and understand.   Highly recommended as a how-to book but also for anyone who is interested in the psychology of investing.

To be honest, I don't read a lot of non fiction, so I didn't know what to expect when I picked this book up. It did not disappoint. My investment experience is minimal and revolves around the shares that I receive every year form my company. I always wanted to be more active in the market, but lack the confidence. I think this book offers some sound tips and ideas about how you should go about creating your investment strategies. I took notes and will try out the strategies provided in the text. I think what I enjoyed the most about this book was the author's delivery. Yes you are reading it to become educated, but it doesn't really feel like you are being educated. There is enough information and humor to make the book fly by, and it does fly by. I like the authors no nonsense approach, and I felt like he was honest and straight forward from the get go. 5 out of 5 stars.

Very good book. Author outlines a hybrid swing trading, day trading, value investing type approach that is designed to maximize the effects of compounded earnings combined with the risk mitigation effects of fundamental analysis. Quite possibly the best approach I have seen, and the one of the best stock market books I have read in my lifetime.

Really enjoyed this stock market book. My gains weren't so great in the past.Even in bull markets. Since then I started buying only undervalued stocks like this author recommends and have seen much better gains than in the past.

Philip Fanara succinctly instructs his readers how to practically and carefully get ahead in the Stock Market. As a person who is new to the Stock Market, I found his book to be highly insightful in the chaotic world of the Stock Market, yet it’s written in such a way that allows the reader to grasp his concepts, strategies, and terminology. I can see how those with diverse experiences in the Stock Market can benefit from this read, therefore I’ve recommended it to all of my family and friends. Already, I have had some friends tell me they’ve employed Mr. Fanara’s strategies with favorable results. These strategies work because it’s total common sense, one of these being keeping your profile diverse. Overall, this three percentage approach has certainly caught my attention. I don’t personally buy into most of these types of books. There are too many get rich quick schemes and I don’t even bother with such foolish dreams. What this book is advocating is not a foolish dream. Far from it, it’s simply a tangible way to make extra income and intelligently utilize your hard-earn money. I can’t stress enough this book is worth reading and I can’t wait to try out his methods in investing.

A Practical Yet Highly Insightful Read I have to admit that I have fallen into the trap of trying to mimic successful investors in the past, desperately trying to grab hold of the spark that made them successful and use it as my own to make a dent in the stock market. However, my results were far less than I wanted and left me feeling dejected about trying again until I ran across ''The Stock Market Outsider''... this is a smart and practical yet insightful book that delves into the little known facets of investing that can make or break a successful stock market investor. Using psychology and business acumen, Philip Fanara explores the processes that every stock market investor needs to develop to understand and distinguish between smart investments, timely investments and failing investments. With psychology you can better understand the emotions that drive the stock market (yours as well as others') to grab hold of smarter investment choices and make them profitable. With the business acumen aspect, the author gives you the basic foundation of learning to adapt and think on your feet so that every choice you make when it comes to stocks is smarter and more profitable. Overall, this was well worth the read and it gave me a wealth of useful advice that I hadn't actually read or heard of before. It's a unique and highly insightful read that I would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to truly understand and be successful in the stock market.
