The Substitute by Denise Grover Swank

The first book in a humorous contemporary romance from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Denise Grover Swank.

Megan Vandemeer meant to tell her parents about her broken engagement, but a month and a half later she finds herself boarding a plane home to her wedding. Having stretched avoidance to its limits, it's to come clean--a terrifying prospect since her mother is sure to blame her rather than her cheating, emotionally frigid ex. A couple of drinks and two Dramamine later, Megan finds herself spilling her sob story to the tall, dark, and handsome stranger in the seat next to her.

With only one week left to save his business, Josh McMillan boards a plane to Kansas City in a last-ditch effort, leaving the details to chance. An unexpected answer is delivered in the form of the beautiful brunette beside him. Though she's completely loopy, her honesty, openness, and humor charm him. So when she passes out before landing, he helps her off the plane--a good deed that leads to a colossal misunderstanding. Her parents assume he's her fiancé. In a twist of fate, the mix-up might help Josh save his business, so he plays along, figuring he can help Megan too. All he has to do is stage a public break up convincing enough to appease her mother.

Josh is only supposed to be a substitute groom, but the more time he and Megan spend together, the more their pretend engagement starts to feel real...and the less they want to break it off. Can a relationship that began as a farce turn into happily ever after?

This is the first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed it, but due to the fact it probably wasn't proof read or spell checked, it was hard to keep focused. Some of the grammar was pretty terrible, too. Will have to think about reading another book by this author.

Oh how I enjoyed this book!!!! The story of Megan and Josh is a fun, fast paced read. I kept wondering how much more craziness could be injected into their tale of the substitute groom and impending wedding. Just when I thought it would calm down there was another twist that kept me reading. I loved how there was an initial attraction between them that blossomed into more as their time together progressed. I pulled for their relationship from the very start. The book had drama, comedy, emotional revelations, mystery and some super hot sexual tension. If you want a great read, feel-good story with a HEA then this is your book!!!.

More of the usual night in shining armor errorotica about hot sex with a stranger ends in "happily ever after" the prepsrerously thin plot disintegrates in the vividly grahic sex. Borring

Don't understand the other reviews. This book was okay, but nothing great and kind of a lame story.

A little jewel for a quick rainy afternoon read. Set in the old west in Texas, two lonely people discover prayer and listening to what God places on their hearts can lead to finding love again. Add a villain, a gun and a fist fight and some good Christian people.....what's not to like! Would like to read more by Eric Rogers and thanks Eric for the free read! Wlee

I love this book! The Substitute is a hilarious romance with an incredibly unique and original story line. The writing pulls you in and the storyline keeps you there because this is honestly something you won’t want to put down. I can feel the emotion coming off the page and I love how there are serious moments followed immediately by hilarious moments. There are so many different characters in this book and they all are different with their own personalities and the main characters, Megan and Josh, are both amazing to read about. Some characters you will love to love and some you love to hate and that is one of the reasons I love this book. You will never be bored while reading this book.

It was truly a delightful read. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next but then I also wanted it to last longer. Dreamy, romantic and sexy. Who would of though a substitute could be better than the original.

I don't give 5 stars often. But was very good. I thought the little touch of everything (love, sex, crazy mom, best friends, family, humor, etc) was great. And, ending not the usual as expected. And to not give it away, I will only say An Avid reader will know what I'm talking about.

If you believe in love at first sight and fate, this is the book for you. Slow in some spots and should have explained the mother a bit sooner.

Would have gave it 5tars, but could have done eithout the sexual content, it was funny, dometimrs i esnted to cry, sometimrs i would like to have hit Meggies mother! Josh met Meg on the plane, she had taken Dramamine along with a couple of drinks, not realizing what the affects would be. She told Josh she was going home but hadn't told her parents about her broken engagement! As he is helping her off the plane her parents thinks hebis her fiance. And the story begins!

This is a really sweet romance. Though unrealistic, it was funny, charming and delightful.

I loved it.

I really liked the story but I would have liked it more without the very graphic language and the way too discriptive sex scenes, i know sexual attraction is important but i don't really want to read every aspect of oral sex.
