The Sugar Ticket is a hilarious romp through love, life, and marriage. The characters were so real I kept asking myself, is this autobiographical? Equal parts comic, poignant, everyday, and extraordinary, Cindy’s adventures had me grinning, laughing, and caring about this all too vulnerable and earnest heroine. Her narrative voice is sharp and witty, tender and deep, and she hooked me from the get go. Three cheers for the Sugar Ticket and five stars for a delightful read!

In this snazzy little sequel to Dinosaurs and Cherry Stems, Susan Jean Ricci proves that all the fun and frustration of courtship doesn’t end after marriage. Although seemingly a perfect match, Cindy and Jay have their differences and go through a rollicking good time coming to terms with them. In Ricci’s smart and sassy style, she relates her vignettes in a down to earth way with real bits of wisdom at the core. I found myself laughing out loud at her astute observations of human nature, poking fun at the thread that bind us all. If you like a heartfelt story with a healthy dose of life lessons on the side, you will love this book.

Reviewed by Hilary Hawkes for Readers' Favorite The Sugar Ticket by Susan Jean Ricci is the story of twice divorced Cindy and Jay, in their fifties, their marriage and all the fun, dramas and traumas of their new lives together. A bit like middle aged adolescents in their approach to life, but with the added wisdom of the years, the book explores how their relationship began and develops into the best kind of deep friendship and love that they had both always wanted. But Cindy discovers that the past can resurface and cause ripples in the present. Secrets, old habits, and insecurities intrude into the couple’s happy, settled, fun and often hilarious daily life. Susan Jean Ricci is an excellent writer and knows how to tell a fun and entertaining story. The Sugar Ticket is both thought-provoking and hilariously laugh-out-loud. The plot moves at a good pace and the story is told from Cindy’s point of view so we get right into the main character’s head. Just enough background about the characters is given at the start, and then Cindy and Jay’s story unfolds. Straight away I really liked Cindy with her sense of fun and the philosophical approach to life that developed out of her life experiences. I love the way she feels spirits (or her Lenape spirits as she calls them) watch over her. I liked the way the story recounts the everyday along with the highlights of their married lives. The Sugar Ticket explores relationships and how past experiences can cause us to repeat patterns and develop set ways of thinking, and how liberating (and scary) it may be to finally break free from these to be our true selves. The happiness, understanding, and tolerance that Cindy and Jay have in their relationship is the result of their new understanding of themselves and what matters most in life: “the sweetness of your present when you alleviate the sour taste of the past.” With lots of heartfelt glimpses of aspects of real life (Cindy’s responsibility for her mentally ill and learning disabled brother for example), The Sugar Ticket is a mixture of comedy and observation that will entertain from the start to the twist of an ending.

Cindy's life hadn't been easy. A special needs brother and a failed marriage later, she wasn't sure where she was headed.  Cindy then had an encounter with a real creepy jerk that left her shaken.  Her friend Julie told her it was time to get out there and find a man to love. Jay happen into Cindy's life and things begin to change.  She knew they'd be happy forever.       I fell in love with this book right away. I could relate to Cindy on many levels. It was nice to read a book where the main character isn't perfect in every way.  The writing is so well done it makes this one an easy read.  The humor in this book just made it that much better.  A lot of what through Cindy's mind enters most women's minds at some point.  Get this book because you are gonna recommend it to everyone you know.  Ms. Ricci is a master storyteller.       I found no issues with this one.      I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it is magnificent.   ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

The Sugar Ticket is the sequel to Dinosaurs & Cherry Stems, the story that started it all.  Cindy and Jay DeMatteo are two mid-life adolescents determined to make their third marriage work and the good news here? They're doing it the way people do via real life. It doesn't get any better than that! There's great times, hilarious times, and some darn good rocking fun, with humor, class, and taste. If you're looking for a contemporary romance sprinkled with humor, you've come to the right place! Stick around -  I've heard a rumor that book three in the Cindy's Crusades series is due out soon!
