Summer Job by Adam Cesare

Welcome to Mission, Massachusetts. Praying won't save you, but it couldn't hurt.

Claire is an alternative girl looking for an alternative. Her post-college prospects have fizzled and she's looking for a new job, a new town, a whole new life. A summer position at a remote hotel may be just what she needs.

Very soon, though, she begins to suspect the hotel may have decidedly sinister motives. At the same time she falls back into her old wild ways with the young people of the town, a radical group totally at odds with the sinister leaders of a local cult. Caught between two worlds, Claire has to plot her escape while spiraling deeper into a nightmare of ritual sacrifice and killer parties.

In this clever, brutal, and at times, darkly humorous, horror novel by Adam Cesare, a young woman, Claire, decides to leave Boston for a summer job in the quaint town of Mission. But while the job at the Brant Hotel isn't glamorous, she soon discovers a group of young people living in the woods, led by the enigmatic Davey, who like to party...and do other things. But the proprietor of the Brant doesn't care for those woods dwelling folks, and neither do they for her, and Claire soon finds herself caught in the middle of an old and bloody conflict. What Cesare does so well, besides creating interesting and believable characters, is blending in enough action to steadily moving along the plot, sprinkling in humor to balance the horror, and jabbing the reader at the climax with a nice plot twist. There were some unanswered questions, or perhaps intentionally done to afford post - read conversation, but this didn't bother me. Highly recommended.

If you looking for a very fast paced, entertaining read then you can't do much better then this one. Creepy location? Check. Likeable heroine? Check. Gore? Check! Believably told and engaging story? Check This nasty piece of country gothic tells the story of killer cults in a small New England town opens with a nice jolt and just keeps a nice pace all the way through. Very fun read. Recommended!

A killer cult sacrificing tourists in the woods? Count me in! This book is about a young girl who stumbles upon a backwoods small town cult during her summer job. I am a fan of all of Adam Cesare's work, but this was my favorite thus far. I could not put this book down and the suspense was subtle but built up over the course of the book. This book was great from start to finish- had a nail biting opening and what I felt was a fitting ending for the main character, Claire. Cannot wait to read his next book!
