This book absolutely wrecked and destroyed me...then put me back together! This book made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me angry, it made me happy but most of all, it made me FEEL deeply! With gentle precision, Mr. King developed characters with whom you will either identify or sympathize but you will definitely fall in love with them. I couldn't help but feel as if in some subtle and discreet way the author was introducing himself on a very personal and intimate level and so I walked away wishing I really did know him personally just to discuss the impact this book had on me. Thank you, Mr. King for this beautifully devastating story of love, forgiveness, redemption, acceptance and living life to the fullest while we still have it to live. If you only read one book this MUST be The Summer Remains.

5 Glowing Stars!!! "You know, we all have scars, Summer. If yours are only on the outside, you should consider yourself lucky." It’s always been a little scary for me to read my first book from a ‘new-to-me’ author regardless of how well known they are or how many books they have released. So going into The Summer Remains I really didn’t have much of a clue what to expect. But I knew that only one of two things would happen. I would either love it or hate it. So yes, it’s a very scary thing to go in blind. “...sometimes you just gotta jump, and then make your parachute on the way down.” Summer Johnson doesn’t want pity or special treatment because of her impending life-altering surgery that’s quickly approaching. She just wants one more summer and to also fall in love. Connecting with Summer wasn’t hard and I found myself wishing I could jump into the book and be her friend. She’s full of insecurities and doubts and doesn’t feel like anyone could or should love her and I feel like that resonates on such a basic human level. We all want to be loved, even with our scars. So meeting Cooper Nichols via a dating app, whether by complete chance or fate, would lead them on a life-changing and eye-opening journey through the summer. Cooper’s sweet and compassionate and takes any chance he gets to remind Summer how beautiful she is. He isn’t without his own scars though and for me that’s what I loved most about him. He isn’t perfect or without flaw, he’s just another human being wanting to be loved past his scars. “Life’s supposed to be hard. If your life is too easy, that means you’re doing it wrong.” I felt the story of Summer and Cooper so deeply. Some parts were difficult to read because of the pain it portrayed, but then I was able to laugh the next instant. What I loved most about The Summer Remains though was it not only rendered me speechless but also reduced me to a sobbing mess more than once throughout. I literally had to put it down and just cry over how this story touched my heart. I’m not even sure how well my words here can do Summer or Cooper justice. This book just turned out to be way deeper than I thought and I’m glad I opened my heart and gave it a chance. “We really were the same: just two lost souls drifting through an uncertain world, waiting for a future we were almost too afraid to even imagine for ourselves.” This isn’t a book about fairy-tale frills nor was it an easy read. However, it is very real and raw and broken and astoundingly beautiful. Summer and Cooper are two profound characters that I will not easily forget. The Summer Remains is an inspiration. It'll inspire you to see how beautiful people are in their differences and challenge you to start recognizing that beauty. Scars and all. I greatly encourage you to read The Summer Remains. This is indeed an epic love story that will stay with hearts for years to come! I’m glad I jumped and I hope with everything in me that you will too. Needless to say, I did end up loving it. ;)

A must read. So honest and true. You'll laugh, cry, and not be able to put it down. My favorite part was the authors note l his brother in the end. I hope this author continues to write. I love his book.

The Summer Remains is a very powerful, thought provoking, rip your heart into a billion pieces, ugly cry, and pick you up again, read. This book carries on so much than a romantic novel. This book will give you feels like no other, it will bring you to your knees, it will draw you into its words, and have you begging to want to live. Summer, oh Summer, beautiful broken, but so well situated into a world that wasn’t as nice as she would like for it to be. Summer has a heart of gold, and does everything in her power to see the best in people, except the ones who give her no choice but to shut out. She knew she needed to live regardless of what the doctor said, and she wanted to find love. She not only found love, but she found herself. She loved hard. Cooper, he was rescued by Summer. Cooper came from a dark place, but he later figured out how to view the world as Summer seen it. He didn’t drown himself in pity, he lived on a legacy that only Summer would understand. You see, there is more to this book than just words, or “I love you’s”. This was a story that gripped your heart strings and makes you want to throw down the electronics and live your life. You never know what someone on the other side of your “friend’s list” is going through, so be careful out there, you never know who is watching from their screen. Live life, but stop dwelling on negativity, you only get one chance. Just do it. Seth you have a remarkable soul, your words do more than light up a heart, you change the way a mind think, and this story will forever not only take a chunk of my heart, but it will forever change a life, my life. Thank you for writing this, and what an amazing story to read about your brother, may he also –float on-. Disclosure: I received this ARC from the author, for an exchange of an honest review.

Such a good story. I felt as though I couldn't truly enjoy it though because of the authors choice in dialogue. Every character, even the main characters who were supposedly very intelligent, used the would "like" way too much. It made them sound unintelligent and childish. As a writer it was hard for me to connect with the book because of this. But the storyline was amazing. Brought me to tears regardless.
