The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Quinn 4 Stars This book grabbed my first emotion of anger starting on page 1, Sofia finding her husband of 26 years with his personal trainer was all that was needed for her to storm out, scratch a not so nice name on his new porsche and ride off to the sounds of the Boss. I really enjoyed this book, it is my first by this author and will definitely not be my last. Sofia starting a new life, in a new place, a place on the beach with some eccentric neighbors on one side and a sexy one on the other. I loved the connections in this story to the songs of Bruce Springsteen, I grew up listening to many of them and now they have even more meaning after reading this book. I loved all the supporting characters in this book, especially Amy! I experienced many different emotions while reading this and i couldn't help thinking about my own life in some places. Watching Sofia start over later in life than most would ever dream of was written beautifully and felt so real! I highly recommend this story, it had a smooth flow and the style was spot on. I was able to read it in one sitting and absolutely can't wait to see what else is available by this author.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspiring Novel by Barbara Quinn is a heart warming story of finding yourself and healing. This is my first story by this author and I enjoyed it and can't wait to read more of her books. Her writing style is such that it just pulled me in right from the beginning. I enjoyed her attention to details, they just made me feel like I was right there in the story with them. Her characters are connectable, lovable and true to life. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions from laughter to compassion. This is an easy flowing story that will pull at your heart strings and just warm your soul. This is the story of Sofia. Sofia owns half of a decorating business with her best friend and today is not having a very good day. She had to return home this morning for something she forgot to hearing sounds coming from her bedroom. What she finds will change her life in an instant, her husband cheating. She gets some revenge then vows to never return. Now she just needs to start over so she cranks her Bruce Springsteen and heads to find a place to live. The place she happens to find has a sexy neighbor that shares her love of Bruce Springsteen. Life starts throwing things at her plus she realizes that she must find healing from the past before she can have a future. Sofia has to be a strong woman in order to put up with what she has from life. I loved watching her grow throughout the story. This story isn't necessarily about two people finding love as it is being broken and learning to put yourself back together. You will just have to read this book to see what I mean by that. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. You will either love them or hate them but either way they make up this story for what it is. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see the roller coaster of life struggles Sofia goes through.

The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me: A Warm and Inspirational Novel by Barbara Quinn was a great read full of hope and renewal. This story follows along several paths, Sofia who is about to lose the life she knows with her husband; and that of the author portrayed as an elderly woman looking back on her life to the tunes of her summer’s during a different time. I found this story to be so uplifting, showing just how great music can make you feel, and how music can be the defining memory of a time that even just the melody can take you back. Not only am I a Springsteen fan, but having grown up listening to his music I have many memories, like the author and her characters, that center around his music. Quinn has an ability to pull her readers in from the first page, and keeping you intrigued until the last sentence. I couldn’t put this book down even if I had tried. Quinn is a new to me author, and I am so glad that I tried this book out. If you need a good uplifting book, filled with memories and music than this is the book for you get ahold of.

I enjoyed the story, the sprinkling of Springsteen, and the setting. My only wish is that the story would continue...

Barbara Quinn’s The Summer Springsteen’s Song’s Saved Me is a funny, atmospheric exploration of a mature woman’s struggle to overcome loss, deal with the havoc life presents to all of us and find the hope and resolve to seek something better. You can smell the salt air, feel the creak of the boardwalk and the crunch of the sand of the Jersey Shore while some of Springsteen’s songs waft in the background. Sofia’s friends, one new, one longstanding, have their own struggles and the trio support each other as they move forward together. Sofia’s dog, Phoebe, has her own special personality that adds humor throughout Sofia’s journey. Ultimately Springsteen’s Songs is about everyone’s need to connect with another human being in a meaningful way that is handled with humor and a strong sense of place and melody.

The Summer Springsteen's Songs Saved Me is a great read, satisfying on many levels. First, as an engrossing tale full of recognizably human characters, Barbara Quinn transports us along with her protagonist, Sofia, from the home that she shared with her soon to be ex-husband to the imagined protections of the resort town of Bradley Beach, a locale from which we will not venture. This setting, with its small town atmosphere and folks, and at times calming and at others threatening surf, along with the lyrics of Springsteen's songs, are as integral to the narrative as the plot and characters that we meet in its pages. The basic plot, although one that we at first are sure that we know - an older woman, facing the loss of love and the encountering of past sorrows, wants a new start - turns original in the hands of the author. Though full of demons, Sofia's journey is warm, optimistic and often fun. An appealing cast of characters, the anticipation of Sofia's redemption in the arms of a worthy lover, the surprising plot twists, and Quinn's deft and convincing dialogue, propel one to turn page after page to learn what next happens to Sofia; every step along the way narrated by Springsteen's lyrics. Sofia is the heroine of the work and the reader is always looking out for her, fearing the obstacles and dangers that lie ahead, but always satisfied with her response. Although Sofia has both real and imagined weaknesses, which have done much to shape her past, she shows courage, resilience and grit in trying to find a better place in her new world of Bradley Beach. It is not that Sofia is perfect, but she is someone for whom we can root wholeheartedly. This is a small but beautifully told story, and one that makes you look at your own life through the lens of Sofia's doubts and insecurities, and her realization that the hurts and disappointments of the past are partially of her own doing and thus she holds in her own hands the making of the future that she wants. This is a book to be read (preferably on a beach with all of Springsteen's songs at your finger-tips) and Barbara Quinn is an author to be followed.
