Sometimes I read reviews before, but I ALWAYS read them afterwards and I was shocked at how many bad reviews this book received. I almost feel like there is some passive-aggressive anti-Semitic feelings are involved, although I would prefer to hope not. I thought that this book was very interesting and well written with an interesting perspective. I, too, am an artist, who was never encouraged to pursue art (or any creative avenues) as viable employment. I understood all the frustration that entails, all the talk about light, the need to prove yourself, and living in a competitive and critical house. The fear of love and sex; not being loved or lovable; failing or succeeding, only to fail anyway. I think it’s all described in beautiful settings, by beautifully flawed characters. Isn’t that what an author is supposed to do for us?

I've spent far too many nights trying to finish this tale. Flow is not an adjective pertinent to this book. From moments of lyrical descriptions to crazy inserted random thoughts...it was like she dropped her note cards and just inserted them anywhere while chasing a quick rabbit. I kept reading for book club AND to see where Yasha ended. He was my favorite voice and solid character. I'm interested in hearing how the author speaks of her work. Don't waste your money.
