About the Author

Desiree Morrow was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She wrote her first book when she was thirteen years old, because she ran out of books to read inside her home. She loves reading books as much as she loves writing her own. Desiree also loves food and sweets, if she's not reading, she's probably eating a cupcake or two. She published her first book The Talented under a publishing company she started title Floebe Publishing. Desiree writes to provide an escape for anyone who wants to live in a fantasy world, and not worry about the trouble of everyday life. She also writes to inspire. This is Desiree's first novel, and she plans to release the second part in The Talented series during late summer. The Talented is a five part series. Right now she is working on another story, which she hopes to release in the fall. She writes fantasy romance fiction under her pen name Desy Smith.

First off, this book is in need of major editing. There are a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes throughout the book. Enough that at times it hurts the flow of the book and takes away from the story. The summary really had me interested and I feel that there was so much more potential to this story. I honestly feel that it is just a remake of Xmen and I LOVE Xmen…but I don’t want to read a remake of it. It was rather disappointing. That mixed with the grammar problems just made it to where I couldn’t finish it, and I absolutely hate when that happens. If you can get past the grammar and the Xmen like story then this might be the book for you though and I don’t want you to overlook it simply because I didn’t like it. *I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Forced to endure life in a mental institution because of one freak accident and a visit from a mysterious woman, seventeen-year-old Carmel has been drugged, and left to rot, until the day the routine was changed and she knew, her time had come to die by lethal injection. Is she hallucinating or is there a hot guy standing above her helping her to escape? Who is he? Where are he and his group taking her? Has she gone from the frying pan into the fire? Welcome to Carmel’s new world, a world where she belongs, a world where she discovers who and what she really is. Welcome to the H.O.T. House of Talents where everyone has a special ability or “talent” friends are made, heroes are born and everything that happens there must remain a secret from humans. And Love, yep, it’s all there, too as Carmel feels a magnetic pull to the leader of her team, Devon, as if she has known him from another place and time. Is this to be her personal Heaven, a place to belong or will danger rear its ugly head, putting her life in jeopardy? Guess evil is in for a reprise, because Carmel will fight like a wildcat for the happiness and answers to her life she has finally found! The Talented by Desy Smith is a brand new addition to the paranormal genre with a kickass heroine with grit, guts and just a touch or two of insecurity as she is plunged into a new world where water and ice are hers to command in an unending battle of good versus evil where out witting an outlasting even superior opponents is the way to survive and keep the world safe. Clever plotting, twists, turns, and a collection unique characters come together in Desy Smith’s collage of intrigue, discovery and coming of age under high duress for her heroine. Not to worry, Ms. Smith has managed to keep the action high, and the angst low with strong, well defined characters, especially Carmel. Love that girl! And Devon, Mr. Tall, Dark, Brooding and Cold? Watch as his melts under the powerhouse that is Carmel, one kiss at a time. Great reading in a world in need of something a little different, a little new and a lot of awesome!

I really enjoyed this book. It's got a fresh and unique story line with a good plot. It's definitely interesting and it kept me intrigued. I definitely liked some of the characters. And I really liked the little twist at the end. And I may also have a few critiques. Lol  Carmel is our leading lady. She had a crappy life, no ways to go around it. She grew up in foster care and her most recent stay landed her in a mental institution at 17. She's really smart, had a gift, and had learned to keep to herself. It takes her a bit to discover that she's gifted, or Talented. I like the idea of how this became to be, a lot. But no secrets. It's a little magic :) on the event of her tragic demise- lookie my big words lol- she is rescued from the mental institution by a group of kids her age. Those kids will become her friends and mentors to help her figure herself out. And she will get to live at HoT, the house of talented.  I loved all the talents in the different characters. It's amazing what some of them are! And who each talent belongs to. I loved her new friends, including the married couple that are her teachers. But not everyone is nice or good.  Here's my complaint. While the story is great, the characters are likable, the editing needs some help. I love a lot of dialogue. I don't love when I don't know who says what in the dialogue. If there's "talking" I actually want to have a name at the end of a sentence. Not different characters contributing to the "talking" but I'm not sure who actually said which sentences. No worries, it didn't hinder my love for the story, but I really want to read book two, because it's gunna be even cooler than this one. And hopefully, these little things are easily fixed. I know, amazing that my expensive college education actually works outside of my career lol but I was always a big stickler for grammar and structure hahaha I totally could have been a teacher instead because of it :)  So with that said, I think this is a really fun book! I'm seriously looking forward to where Devon, flora, Carmel, and our cool group of talented are going to go from here. If you like some mystery surrounding  some very awesome supernatural abilities, dive in. And I have a feeling this is just the surface. There's gunna be even more greatness to come :) 4.5 PAWS!!
