The Tangled Tree: A Radical New History of Life 1 out of 5based on

If you wish to choose to read one overview in the field of molecular phylogeny, don't pick The Tangled Tree by Mr. David Quammen. The chapters average fewer than five pages each which is an indication of the lack of a conceptual organization to this book. Chapter 22 is one half page long. There is one memorable sentence with a clause which provides an Albert Einstein anecdote for no apparent reason except that the author happened to think of it. It is almost as pertinent as the photograph which shows several people including the author. The author's style is to "photo bombs" throughout. This book is a hot mess that calls out for an editor.
