The Tattooed Angel is the first short story in the Tales of the High Avenging Angel series. This dark and gritty look at the seedy underbelly of an interstellar civilization is intended for adults only. When a starpilot with nothing left to lose is saved from the consequences of his own bad judgement by a stranger, he feels he owes her a debt. So when her brutally raped and beaten corpse, the apparent victim of pirates, is discovered, he agrees to find her killers, who are somewhere out among the dozens of colonies and space stations in human-explored space. What started out as a simple job becomes a personal vendetta. He's determined that the scales of justice will be balanced even if it has to be done by his own hand. But was her murder just a random act of piracy or is it the tip of the iceberg of something far more sinister?

I would give this story 6 stars if I could. Both Angel and Angelfire are sort of Die Hard in outer space. Both are well written by someone who makes the action in space believable, the future gadgets new and intriguing, and the plots reasonable for interstellar travel. I have been reading SF for the past 64 years and have enjoyed these stories as much as any previous. My thanks to Dietmar Arthur Wehr for sharing his outstanding imagination. Hey, is it possible the stories were really written by Keko???
