Is transparency as necessary for a good marriage as it is for a successful tax return? The short story, The Tax Angel, asks this question as it looks behind closed doors and unearths deductions you never knew you had coming. Can the rite of preparing yearly returns change an otherwise delightful woman into a fire-breathing harpy, or is it just her husband’s fevered imagination? The author combines the angelic with some deviltry for a deft concoction that will have you reading past April 15. I can’t tell you whether to take that questionable deduction. I can recommend you read this story to put a little humor into tax season.
DJ Marcussen’s book The Tax Angel is a delightful and partial representation of what happens to thousands of individuals when tax season comes around. She writes with a witty style that is both concise and entertaining. It is a wonderful read for both the tax professional as well as anyone who has ever endeavored to do their own tax return. Join Michael and his lovely new wife Kimi, a tax accountant workaholic, as they discover that the real test of love and a strong marriage can be found in trust and the dozens of scraps of paper we diligently keep for tax purposes that drive us mad. You’re in for a bumpy ride. Enjoy and don’t say you weren’t warned. Tax season can get to be scary. Ask Michael. He’ll tell you.
I really enjoyed this story. It's funny and engaging until tax season progresses, then it becomes scary.
