Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Reviews
Graphic novelist turned fantasy author Myrick releases the first installment of a promising trilogy...Of its manifold strengths, the novel is fluid and full of surprises...The author masterfully crafts vivid battle scenes and heart-pounding chases across oceans, over snow-peaked mountains and into city sewers. Neither diehard nor casual fantasy readers will be able to resist this trilogy's rousing start. An exemplar of storytelling and character-driven adventure.

Anyway... I'm here to offer Grave Kingdom a deal. Since Blake left, you have no leader, you will soon be in chaos. Come to Ocean Kingdom. We have a great King and Queen, a beautiful princess, and lots of subjects. You will be happy and at peace there. Thank you. Ocean kingdom res one and two.

I rarely am moved to review a book but this one has to be the exception.  It was, of course, full of action and excitement but what I appreciated even more was the character development.  We get to watch as a number of the characters interact with one another and grow.  I eagerly await the next book to appear in epub format since it is already available for the Kindle.

If you have seen this writer's graphic narrative work (Sweet, Missouri Boy, Bright Elegy) then you know he can tell a story. The Ten is no exception. The narrative moves quickly but is fully realized at every turn. The action is almost cinematic and the story-telling clearly benefits from Myrick's strong visual sense. You'll love Bera and all of the female characters for that matter. They are as fully and individually rendered as the male characters. The plot is complex enough to keep it interesting and logically support the promise of two more installments. Looking forward to the next works in the series.
