The Third Twin by C. J. Omololu

Identical twins. Identical DNA. Identical suspects. It’s Pretty Little Liars meets Revenge in this edge-of-your-seat thriller with a shocking twist.

When they were little, Lexi and her identical twin, Ava, made up a third sister, Alicia. If something broke? Alicia did it. Cookies got eaten? Alicia’s guilty. Alicia was always to blame for everything.

The game is all grown up now that the girls are seniors. They use Alicia as their cover to go out with boys who are hot but not exactly dating material. Boys they’d never, ever be with in real life.

Now one of the guys Alicia went out with has turned up dead, and Lexi wants to stop the game for good. As coincidences start piling up, Ava insists that if they follow the rules for being Alicia, everything will be fine. But when another boy is killed, the DNA evidence and surveillance photos point to only one suspect—Alicia. The girl who doesn’t exist.

As she runs from the cops, Lexi has to find the truth before another boy is murdered. Because either Ava is a killer . . . or Alicia is real.

Ok i agree with some on this book. It was boring in the beginning all the way till past half the book. I was ready to give up but decided to skip pages and that's how i got thru most of it. The real action and "thrilling" starts when the cops go to the school. Once you reach that part you finally get into the fast paced story of a "thriller ". I gave it a 4 star cause the end saved it. I disagree with others who didn't like it. Imo i think it actually saved the book. I actually feel that the story could of keep going with the girls different story line because now it really felt like it could get good.

I was hooked from the get go. This story is about Alicia, a made up sister by twins Ava & Lexi. Like an imaginary friend, Alicia was to blame for anything that went wrong when the girls were young. Now, in their last year of high school, they use Alicia to go out and have fun. When Alicia’s date start turning up dead, you wonder how real Alicia really is and which one of the twins has taken it too far.

Lexi and Ava are twins. They have a devoted father who loves them fiercely. They have Cecilia, who wears many hats...nanny, cook, maid. She has been with the twins almost their whole life. Lexi and Ava are identical twins who sometimes like to play tricks on the boys they are dating. Instead of playing each other, they made up the "third" twin named Alicia. Alicia, is much more out going than Lexi or Ava, and is much more adventurous. Alicia, is also a lot of trouble. What started out as fun for Lexi and Ava, eventually turned out to be very bad....and it was all Alicia's fault. Even if she didn't really exist. This was a fun story to read. I love stories about twins. There are not many that I have read, but the ones I have read always turn out quite interesting. Ava, and Lexi are great characters. They are very different in personalities, but each ones has something unique about them. Alicia, was mischievous. I guess it was Lexi and Ava's way of letting some of their rebellion out. She makes for a very interesting character. There are a lot of great side characters that you come to love in this book as well. The author did a great job of bringing every character into the book. I love the voice she gives all her characters. Zane is probably my favorite ;). The world Omololu built was great. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning which I loved. She has a way of making every day life seem much more exciting than it is in the "real" world. I love it when I can escape in a book and feel like I am sitting on the sidelines watching, or even participating in it. She brought my imagination to life with all the twits and turns. If you like mystery, I think you will really enjoy this book. I hope you give it a chance. If you do I would love to hear what you think. Source: I bought this book for myself. I was not compensated in any way for this book. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.

Fun, quick, and engaging read. I wasn't overly impressed with the finale, but I enjoyed everything leading up to it and was quickly addicted to the book. Well written and face paced. Enjoyable!

I received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.  I have to say this was one of those books that kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who done it.  Alexa and Ava are identical twins how sweet! But ever since they were little they would blame everything on a "invisible" person named Alicia. Now everyone went on with this little joke of a third sister with these two but Alexa and Ava took it to a whole other level. Now that the girls are grown up they use Alicia to go out with guys that are not deemed worthy enough to keep around just date and possibly fool around even though there are rules to using Alicia!  When guys the girls are dating end up dead they find themselves in the cross hairs of the police but will the police find the killer in time? Or will one or both of the twins go to jail for murder? The author had me on my toes on more than one occasion. There were twists and turns I didn't see coming, as soon as I thought I had the killer pegged down the author threw something else in the mix and made me rethink. I loved the plot line and how the author didn't give you the killer right away. You had to read to the end to figure it out. Now yes about 80% in the book I finally knew who it was but that is what made me enjoy the story. I had to keep reading and guessing. I couldn't just say oh now I know who it is. Not only that the twist that comes in the middle of the book! Totally did not see that coming at all and I loved that the author threw that in there.

MY THOUGHTS  I usually don't go for thrillers, because most of the ones I read seem to be the same thing, but this was a very entertaining read and much more different that other thrillers out there! Lexi and Ava are twins and were adopted after being found in front of their, now father's, restaurant. When they were young, they made up a third twin, a triplet, named Alicia. Alicia was to blame when anything went wrong. Now that the girls are older, they pretend to be Alicia in order to get guys. After the guy guy attempted to rape her, Lexi wants to be done with Alicia. Then, just a day later, the guy ends up dead. Another boy Alicia dated ends up dead and the evidence starts piling up. All of it pointing to Lexi and Ava. First off, the idea behind this book is very interesting. Many people, myself included, have made up imaginary 'friends' as a child and put all of the blame on them. Lexi and Ava did this as children and then later decided to become her, using Alicia as an alternate identity. I disagreed with them doing this, although it does sound like fun, but I thought it was a very unique idea. Then add on the idea that Alicia may possible be real, and you have a very engrossing book! Lexi is our main character and I liked her character. She isn't shy, but she's more reserved and she feels more free as Alicia, who isn't afraid of anything. Ava is more of a party girl. I liked their relationship. There definitely acted like sisters, as they didn't always get along, but they did love each other. I was annoyed with Lexi as she was so quick to point fingers at Ava. I know, all the DNA points at the two of them and she knows that she didn't do it, but I would think that she would have trusted her more. The mystery was actually very surprising! I thought I had it all figured out, but in reality, I was completely wrong. I do think the book ended oddly. I don't know how to explain, but some of the revelations near the end felt off to me.  IN CONCLUSION  If you want to read an interesting and surprising thriller, than this is the one! It was a fairly quick read and very different from other thrillers. I did have a few issues, but I still enjoyed it overall!

I really wanted to like “The Third Twin”, and for a little over half of the book, I did.  Somewhere around there it really jumped the rails in several aspects.  The first half is why I gave it three stars, but the second would most certainly would be a two star book, in my opinion. The premise is a very interesting one, and an unsolved murder for which the protagonist is a suspect holds a lot of promise.  The stakes rise as it goes on, delivering a mix of the predictable and good surprises.  The set-up was the best part of the book. The characters are not well-developed, relying mostly on tropes to establish their personalities, and by the end they are quite grating.  The ending, without spoiling it, is everything that a mystery should not be.  While unpredictable, which is a good quality, it comes out of nowhere with absolutely no clues to lead it there, which is anything but good. For most mystery lovers, I would recommend giving this one a pass.  If the little details are not something you care about in a mystery or thriller, it may be worth a try.  If nothing else, “The Third Twin” is a quick read.
