This is the best of the 5 or 6 Tom Sharpe books that I have read - his word play is at his subtle, British best, his humour the shapest, and he doesn't fall into the grand finale trap that mars the ending of some of the Wilt books. It is also a mystery, though one doesn't realize it until the last page. The protagonist, Lockhart Flawse, is the noble savage, much like Gary Cooper's Mr. Smith, but with a devilishly clever streak, and bent on hillarious revenge. I recommend this highly to anyone who loves black commedy, politically incorrect humor, excellent British word play, or just feeling good about bad things happening to nasty people.
