The seas are calm and it’s a beautiful red sky morning on the Flying Dragon.. But Polly says to take heed. A storm is brewing. The crew doesn’t believe her so she explains what she read in a book. Red sky in morning, sailor take warning. Red sky at night, a sailor’s delight. I learned some hand rhymes like this when I was young. There’s also one for poisonous coral snakes. Red on black, friend of Jack. Red on yellow, kill a fellow. Another snake is very similar to it and it helps you know which one is poisonous. I love how the sailor’s poem prepared the crew for a storm they couldn’t even see yet. And all because Polly the parrot loves books. They weather the storm and follow a treasure map to a small island to hunt for bounty. It’s what pirates do, don’t you know? Oh, it was crazy cute what was in the treasure chest they dug up. Carole sure knows how to spin a charming, funny story. Kids will want to go on a treasure hunt too. But they’ve already found it. It’s this wonderful book of adventure and imagination.

Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite The fifth story in the Captain No Beard series, The Treasure of Snake Island by Carole P. Roman is as exciting as the previous ones and this book opens with the crew watching sunrise. Each of them has their own perspective about how beautiful the sunrise is. Polly Parrot is the only one who thinks that red sky in the morning signals a storm brewing because she has read it in a book. Captain No Beard thinks The Flying Dragon is strong enough to weather any storm. By lunchtime there is rain and the ship rocks to and fro. The crew members want to know about books and the topic of snakes reminds Captain No Beard that they are close to Snake Island, with treasure there. Will they be able to find it? If so, what is the treasure? The author’s way of speaking about the importance of reading and books is refreshing and unique. It will make young readers curious about books and will encourage them to read. The illustrations, as in the previous stories, are colorful and lively and they make the story more vibrant. It is definitely a classroom and library read aloud as it speaks about books and the knowledge and information one can gain by reading books. The story will help parents develop an interest in reading to their children, just like Polly Parrot does with the rest of the crew on The Flying Dragon.

The Treasure of Snake Island, by Carole P. Roman, continues the delightful story of an imaginary pirate, Captain No Beard, his First Mate, and his Crew. It's an enchanting story of searching for treasure. Polly the Parrot reminds the crew that books are where she has learned everything but a storm is brewing and the crew has to get to work to keep The Flying Dragon on its course. Eventually, they arrive at Snake Island and working as a team, they uncover a treasure. The brightly colored whimsical pictures will keep the interest of youngsters as they read or are read to. An engaging, entertaining book to take young readers on a pirate ship ride or out to discover a wonderful treasure themselves. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

We received this book to give an honest review. I know we have said it before, but we love Captain No Beard and the moral of his stories. Captain No Beard is a young captain with his mates on board. We learn the saying about a red moon at dawn and what it means. And we follow the Captain and his mateys to Snake Island via a treasure map and  they find a treasure that is awesome. No not gold doubloons even though those are awesome treasures but something more that is perfect!   An awesome read for all ages.

Captain No Beard and his crew are off on a new adventure.  This time in search of treasure on Snake Island.  While watching the sunrise, Polly the Parrot reminds them," Red sky in morning, Sailors take warning."  Soon the rain starts pouring. Polly explained she learns from reading!      Wonderful, fun and exciting. The little in your life will love this book.  Treasures, snakes and rain, what's not to like, right?  You will be surprised at what the treasure really is though.       I didn't find any issues.      I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it's another great addition to the littles library.  ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

The Treasure of Snake Island - A Captain No Beard by Carole P Roman is the newest edition to an emerging new, vibrantly illustrated children's book based on the popular pirate theme. Watercolor art perfectly accompanies the nautical pirate action. The art is fast paced like the untamed adventurous seas where the stories take place. This story includes Captain No Beard and the other familiar heroes of the original book. During the story children will learn an important message about the treasures that books hold. Books- often overlooked, are given a prominent place as they are equated with mystery and with valuable treasure. This book reinforces important lessons- repackaging them in the context of a fictional pirate story. The surprise ending is unexpected and entertaining as it is not the typical outcome that one might expect. Roman has mastered the plot twist adding an element of surprise that even parents will appreciate as they read this story to their children. This inviting new book series introduces children to the friendly pirate named Captain No Beard, and his frigate as well as the host of friendly talking animals. This is the perfect introduction to pirate literature - like pirate literature 101 complete with the typical pirate talk and pirate cliches. There is a pirate reference on every page of these books such as the Jolly Roger, crossbones flag, pirate slang and nautical terminology . The consistency of this series will appeal to young children. The surprise ending will capture the readers attention and encourage their imaginations. This book encourages role playing- where one's bedroom can become a new world, and blankets can become an ocean. Parents and children alike will be entertained by the pirate slang, vibrant pirate themed illustrations as well as the inviting bold text. The books of this series belong on the bookshelf of every pirate enthusiast. As a blogger I received this book from the author for the purpose of writing this review.
