This book helped me get back into shape and really focus on my softball training. The pictures were really helpful and the charts in the back kept me in line. The time I put in really started to show after 2-3 weeks.

I'm a certified strength and conditioning coach specializing training and conditioning softball players. I've been doing this for 10 years through my company and my website. I'm also an experienced softball with over 20 years of softball coaching experience at all levels of the game including the international and college levels. So when it comes to softball conditioning, I obviously know what I'm talking about. This book is well-designed, well-presented, and is easy to understand. The descriptions and pictures of each exercise presented are also excellent. However, where I am highly disappointed is that the book is too generic in nature. It fails to... 1) Choose the right exercises. Most exercise are just regular exercise that the average joe does at a gym. There is no single-leg work, stability ball exercises, medecine ball exercises, olympic lifts, plyometrics exercises, explosive lifts, stability or balance work, etc. 2) Train the most important qualities: speed, power, and agility. The program is only designed to train general strength and endurance and has no exercises to train power (explosive strength). You see, softball is a speed and power sport and it is critical to train those two components. So.. this is a good general fitness program to lose a few pounds and gain some muscles but it fails to meet the specific demands of the game of softball and doesn't use exercises that elite strength and conditioning coach use with elite athletes. I know what Brandon Marcello, US National Team strength coach does and I have seen what the Aussies and the Japanese do and it's not what is presented in that book. Most strength coaches that work with softball or baseball players will tell you the same thing. Again, great information on the basics of weight training but nothing really specific to softball Actually, a lot of the info presented is the same that is contained in the other titles of the same collections. I owned two other titles and the programs are very similar. These are my thoughts on this book.
