Overview

We are mighty, little one, and we are brave; it will not always be so easy to find, but it will be there. Know this many years from now, you will learn to love yourself again, and it will be the most painful experience and worthwhile time. Just breathe and know that it ends it will end by the time you’re fifteen. I will write that letter later. I also know that a lot of my words are probably too large or too forward thinking for us at six, so I just wanted to say this and this alone to you for now

WE BECOME A SUPERHERO

Brian (US)

What would you say to yourself after suffering years of sexual, physical, and mental abuse? If you could write a letter or novel telling yourself to keep calm and survive, would you? This is one man’s truth and voice lending to the cause of survival.

Brian's book highlighted why a parent's love is so important and what can happen if that love is not given. I found myself reviewing the relationship I have with my children and hoping I did ok. Unloved by both parents Brian is able to describe this void in moving words. Jimmy Stewart's favorite quote from It's a Wonderful Life "I wish I was never born" was threaded throughout the book. Brian is able to rise above his suffering that included beatings, child sexual abuse, and verbal abuse to triumph and to become a "superhero". As an RN and nurse educator specializing in mental health and the effects child sexual abuse can have on an adult this book is worth the read. As a mother, while not perfect, this book speaks to the importance of loving our children.
