Any would-be dog owner wanting a pep talk about the feasibility of having a pet while living in a city will be encouraged by Curtis's book. Urban Dog contains all the basic information necessary for keeping a dog in the city: what to feed, when to train, how to travel, etc. The text, on an introductory level, reassures first-time owners, yet is so positive and anecdotal that even sophisticated ``dog people'' will enjoy it. Though a general book, its gentle approach, sensible advice, and low price, coupled with a 16-page photo insert, make it a good collection choice to complement more specialized pet titles.
