Overview

The Valet of Darkshire Manor by Linda Boltman

The advertisement simply stated, “Wanted – valet for large household. Must love animals.” Desperate for a job, Edwin Thorpe responded and was immediately accepted. A train ticket arrived within a week for the evening departure to Darkshire the following Friday. There were no further instructions. Now he stood at the train depot, a small satchel in hand, about to be greeted by two very strange men in long, dark capes.

Edwin had been a valet for almost forty years, trained by his father’s cousin in the art of caring for the rich, yet in all the years he had been a valet, no one had ever asked so little of him. He had never been privy to such an unusual employer. Parties went on until early dawn, Lord Darkshire and his Russian Wolfhounds went hunting late at night and staff spoke in low whispers. All in all, Edwin Thorpe wasn’t quite certain what to make of it.

Just an ok short story. Could have gone on into a great story if given time, but just stopped mid story it seemed.

It’s a short and I do mean a short story. It wasn’t my idea of a good time, more like a joke that is told in a minute and then gone. I guess the fact that it is free was good but really even free it cost me the five minutes it took to read. Really Not Worth It.

I am not a fan of short stories - mostly because there just isn't enough. LOL Which is how I feel about this one. I didn't want it to end, I wanted more spooky suspense.

The story itself was great although very short. Really held my interest. A dark tale. The ending left me wanting more of the story. I would have loved to see this story go on and become a book. I loved Linda Boltman's writing style and plan to read more of her stories. Well edited with only one or two typos.

I enjoy reading reviews about what people get out of a book. There has got to be a way for b&n to track these kids who come in herr to chat and say stupid stuff. Parents should take their readers from them and b&n should fine them. These authors actually would like reviews on their books. Its so frustrating to see all these reviews where kids should use a phonr or computer to talk and play around. You have to register the device, someone needd to monitor this crap. I am seriously checking out other readers for sale by competitors to see if there is anyone out there where this nonsense isn't tolerated
