The Vampire Girl Next Door by Richard Arbib

Right after Mark's next-door neighbor is murdered, he gets a new neighbor--the beautiful but mysterious Sylvia, who has just arrived from London. Mark is drawn into a mutually obsessive relationship with Sylvia. She is secretive regarding her past and Mark's friends caution him that she can't be trusted. But Mark won't listen to his friends or to the priest who later claims that Sylvia is a deadly threat.
Mark is enchanted by Sylvia's beauty and charm, even though dating her has its challenges. Whether it's performing gymnastics on the ledge of the Golden Gate Bridge, creating an embarrassing scene at the wedding of Mark's best friend, or shocking Mark with her unusual sexual proclivities, Sylvia never misses an opportunity to make a bad first impression.
When Mark first meets Sylvia, he tells her, "You're the girl of my dreams!"
Sylvia smiles and responds with a warning--"Be careful what you wish for."

The literary world just doesn't have enough girl vampires. This book helps to rectify that shortage with Sylvia, a lively and unpredicable character. The usual dynamic of powerful male vampires seducing hapless young women gets turned on its head in this narrative. Syvia uses charm more often than her formidable powers to create the bond of love. This is a love story and a mystery. I hope that Sylvia's adventures continue around the globe.

It’s present day San Francisco. Mark finds himself narrowly escaping danger on the street and comes home to find that an irresistibly attractive woman has moved into the apartment across the hall from his. It seems to be love at first sight for them both, but her unconventional lifestyle takes Mark on a series of experiences that he, and perhaps you, will never forget. Author, Richard Arbib, has crafted a love story filled with intrigue, adventure, and suspense that compels the reader to keep turning the pages.

A little spooky, a little sexy, "Vampire Girl Next Door" will definitely have you looking over your shoulder when you're out and about, and maybe even checking out your neighbors more closely! Good descriptions of San Francisco and Reno and a plot with just the right amount of twists and turns. I hope there is a sequel so we can join Mark and Sylvia as they continue their adventures!

I had the good fortune to be one of the first to read this novel. It is witty, mysterious and a comfortable, easy read. I never knew that being a vampire in modern times could be so humorously complicated. Great for light reading!

This book is a definite read. As you get further along you feel connected to both Mark and Sylvia. Looking forward to reading more about their adventure and life as it goes forward. Breath taking at some points and flooring in utter astonishment in others this book is one I recommend for all adults interested in a well written novel. Set mostly in San frinsisco this novel brings out the good and bad of the city, people wise. It really brings you into the story as you feel closer and more emotionally attached to the two characters.

This book was truly a pleasure to read. It is interesting, descriptive and well written. I enjoyed the part where the author describes Silvia's life hundreds of years ago. This is a book I would recommend to all my friends and family to read. If you enjoy a more “adult” take on Vampires then you would enjoy this book.

Reviewed by Lit Amri for Readers' Favorite Mark Sheridan’s life is taking a strange turn; three curiously related murders had taken place within twenty-four hours of each other, and both murder scenes had happened within close proximity to him. The strangeness only intensifies with the arrival of Sylvia Martin from London, a mysterious pretty girl with weird eyes. She moved in after Mark’s loud and obnoxious neighbor was murdered in his apartment one night. Enchanted by her, Mark could not help but feel truly infatuated with her, ignoring his friends’ advice to be cautious, including a priest’s ominous warning about Sylvia. The Vampire Girl Next Door is a fast-paced, immersive supernatural fiction by Richard Arbib. Narrated from a first person point-of-view, readers could tell right away that protagonist Mark is an average guy with a busy life schedule – gym, Kung Fu and film classes as well as working thirty hours per week selling advertising for a weekly newspaper. Readers don’t have to wait long for the eerie supernatural scenes to start. Right at the start of the novel Richard Arbib introduces Sylvia, whom Mark’s friend Dave caught staring at him from outside the gym’s window. As he walked home, Mark was attacked by three young thugs but he was saved by someone or something that swiftly killed two of them without being seen. We could already guess who his ‘savior’ was. Overall, the story’s pace is definitely a fast one, and yet it does not feel rushed at all. The plot is adroitly written and I myself feel drawn to the mysterious Sylvia. This is perhaps the best supernatural fiction that I have read this year.

I enjoyed reading “The Vampire Girl Next Door.” It has interesting and fun main characters, Sylvia and Mark. The character Sylvia is very different from other female vampires I have read about. It has the following great distinctiveness. 1. Not too many characters to get confused with. 2. Easy names. 3. Light, easy to read but not so that it insults the reader. 4. Continues from chapter to chapter. One chapter ends and the next picks up. It does not jump around back and forth from one scenario to another scenario, chapter after chapter. 5. Has a satisfying ending. I hope this book has a sequel.
