Very interesting book written in the style of a childrens book (More illustration than text). However the illustrations are very graphic and adult oriented (gore not sex) Some of which will stick with you for awhile. I am talking in particular about the section in which they discuss the vampires and their style of feeding. The book presents a history of vampires as a society, not as a singular horror story. Delves into the classes and types of vampires as well as their culture and interactions with the common man. If you are obsessed with Vampires and are looking for an entertaining journey then this is a book for you. If you want a deep and involved history then I would look somewhere else.

Barnes & Noble press have really stepped up to the plate by issuing the U.S. edition of this book. Don't be put off by the fanciful format - this is no kids' book. It's also not a book of folklore, as the vampire 'facts' are clearly contemporary fiction. If you love vampires the way they used to be - terrifying but regal lords and ladies of the night - than you are going to love this book. Wonderful art by Miles Teves enhances the text by Martin Howard. Fans of Hammer films, Vampire Hunter D, 'Ravenloft,' even Brian Lumley take note and add this one to your collection.

The cover of this book practically jumped off the shelf at me. It promised an exceptionally dark tour of the world of the Vampire, and I could tell that it was going to deliver the goods the moment I cracked it open. It is a nicely bound book with a leather feel to it, and nice weight. The pages are thick and look aged by centuries of moldering storage. There are lots of little envelopes and flaps which contain elements of the story and add great interest. It was the illustrations within that initially hooked me 'and they are amazingly detailed renderings by artist Miles Teves, who must be channeling this stuff from some ancient dimension', but the universe created by the Author that sold me on it. It is very intriguing and original. It is a cosmic take on Vampires that seems to have Biblical proportions! He takes the subject matter seriously, but not without a touch of cruel humor. If you are a Goth, former Goth, a closet Goth, or even just a casual fan of horror in general, this reasonably priced tome is a pleasure to own.
