I enjoyed this book
The description for 'The Vampire King's Mate' appealed to me as I always enjoy those disparate matings. Particularly in this world where vampires and werewolves despise each other and have for centuries been waging war on one another mercilessly. King Kevyan Melrose has been trying to come up with a way to make peace with the wolves but so far none of the council members have found an agreeable solution. When an injured werewolf shows up at the gates of his estate, instead of having him killed, Kevyan has him brought in to be healed in hopes that this can begin peace talks. He is shocked to discover the man, who has been poisoned by silver and severely tortured, is his true mate. Dorian Keller wakes up in a lavish bedroom with his last memory one of being drugged and tortured, some psycho asking him questions about werewolves and vampires, then being left out in the woods in horrible pain after being injected with something. He has no clue what is going on and apparently has no idea of his true nature. Once he gets proof, at least about vampires, to say he's shocked is a mild understatement. Since Dorian has never shifted and has never done anything unusual, he has to accept their word that he's a werewolf. When the doctor’s results are back confirming his suspicions as to what type of wolf Dorian is… well, let's just say that in this author’s world these wolves haven't been seen in a while and they're very rare. Once the werewolves discover this, they'll come for Dorian to return him to their pack. This was a very exciting and action-filled entrance into this world. The sex was super hot and crazy intense, too… let's not forget about that. I very much enjoyed the writing and the storyline. The war between the werewolves and the vampires began centuries before, the werewolves only know their side of it as they've been taught, but Kevyan and his sister, Christiana, were there being so much older than werewolves. It was fascinating to watch these peace talks to try to repair centuries of hatred and misunderstandings. I can't wait to get started on the next book in the series. There's so much potential to be had between the two species, and I look forward to seeing more of Dorian and Kevyan.
