Overview

Book 1 of the Wagered Hearts Series by Calista Kyle.

A Bookworm
Lily Hayward doesn’t do parties, doesn’t like attention, and she definitely doesn’t date. This unassuming book shop owner would rather spend a night in with a good book rather than hobnob with the rich and famous.

When her best friend Mel begs her to attend a charity gala with her, Lily reluctantly agrees. All she wants is to get through the night without embarrassing herself or snapping someone’s head off.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen. Lily causes a bit of a stir when she berates another guest for spilling his drink on her.

...and a Billionaire
Roman Conrad is rich, bored and too handsome for his own good. He’s never had a problem attracting women. When he sees Lily at a charity gala, she’s already made a little name for herself as an Ice Princess. Seeing the perfect opportunity to alleviate his boredom and to get one over an acquaintance, he makes a bet that he can make Lily fall in love with him.

What he never expected was that he would be the one in danger of falling in love.

The Betrayal
After a painful past, Lily is gun-shy when it come to love and trusting her heart to anyone. She suspects Roman may be too good to be true, but against her better judgment, she can’t help being drawn to him anyway.

She has no idea about the bet and Roman wants to keep it that way, but fate has other plans. After spending his whole life waiting for a woman like Lily will one careless wager ruin everything and tear them apart?

I can't believe that I got lucky to get this for free. Excellent story plot. I feel the emotions of each character, the excitement, sadness, happiness...oh this book is oh so good!!! Will definitely purchase book 2.

Chapters alternate between main characters and is first person narrative. Both of these annoy me. You always have to figure out which character's POV you're reading. Female lead is very insecure. The author tells the story rather than showing it. Not much dialogue. The scene where she was called a nickname from school didn't seem believable to me. People change and grow up in six years. Dialogue was immature. I guess this was just an excuse for him to come to her rescue. I did like the fact that it didn't take place in a day or week. We had more time for feelings to develop. It was odd that they never went to his place though. Overall, I didn't care for the writing style and immature dialogue. I won't be checking out author's other books. 143/152 pages on my nook...2 stars.

Cute book. Other reviews complain about grammer. I was able to overlook minor flow issues! The main character made me smile! Happy romance book

The word ' had' was abused and unnecessary throughout the book. "Had had" really. My rating would be higher if the book did not have so many grammatical errors.

Of course the grammer/proofreading was poor - it was free... The story line was rather refreshing and I enjoyed the alternating POVs for character development. I am even considering paying for book 2.

This was a very enjoyable read, and it deserves to have had a better editing job done on it......hence the 4 stars instead of the 5.

I like the individual point of views, you really know where each characture is coming from. I like that the female wasn't a wimpy pushover and stood her ground. I'd like the read the rest of the series too, the stories sound like a lot of fun!
