The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men by Christina Hoff Sommers

Despite popular belief, American boys tag behind girls in reading and writing ability, and they are less likely to go to college. Our young men are greatly at risk, yet the best-known studies and experts insist that it's girls who are in need of our attention. The highly publicized "girl crisis" has led to many changes in American schools, politics, and parenting...but at what cost?

In this provocative book, Christina Hoff Sommers argues that our society has continued to overemphasize the troubles of girls while our boys suffer from the same self-esteem and academic problems. Boys need help, but not the sort of help they've been getting.

This book is going to stir up some controversy as it uses fact to dismiss what the popular media is buying into. You will probably see many people use emotion and opinions to try and dismiss this book, but anyone with an open mind will see the truth in this book. Christina Hoff Summers is brave enough to challenge the creators of the 'lost girl' mentality and thoroughly dismantles the rhetoric and skewed statistics they use as 'evidence.' The fact that she is a female only makes her argument that much stronger. This is an extemely important book for anyone with children in school, educators, or anyone else who wants to know about how new public policy is leaving half of our children behind. Have an open mind and look at the facts.

I have read enough emotionally charged pseudo-science dribble about men and women that it is refreshing to see cool, fact based thought about gender. Boys are behind and no clear thinking person wants an entire generation of boys to be lost. Boys and girls should be given the tools for success and not at the expense of either sex! Hopefully, this book will open some eyes to recognize some of the initiatives needed to help boys not only succeed but thrive along with girls.

Its's 2011 and The War Against Boys is still smoldering. The suicide rate, the rate of incarceration, the number of Boys under medication, the number of Boys who dropout, The number of Males entering Collage and now the number of Males out of work in every category Males in this Country are in deep trouble and we as a Country are not better for it. Thank you Ms Sommers for the Clarion Call. To bad few heard it.

Excellent new look at what is happening to the male in schools and society. It confirms it is okay to be yourself even if you are a male. Another viewpoint you may not like, yet makes you think.

Christina Hoff Sommers is a woman of great courage and a credit to her gender. The liberal feminists have been brainwashing the media for so long that boys and young men no longer know who they are, or what to do for a living. The liberal media has caused irreparable damage by REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE the troubling state boys are in.

After reading the reviews for Christina Sommers' book: The War Against Boys, I have come to the conclusion that she speaks with an open mind and of the facts. It is obvious that the readers who oppose her writing are close minded and uneducated. This is just my opinion.

This book is so off-the-wacker. I know that some people might be tired of hearing about how many women struggle too be accepted in a male-run society, but sometimes the truth hurts. I must say that this is some of the worst drabble that I have ever read. I wish that no stars were an option.

As a femme gay man who was violently abused by my peers, teachers, principal and family I find it absolutely stunning that the author of this book is actually under the very false impression that masculine heterosexual boys are victims of feminism. This is nothing more than the work of a paranoia and an overactive imagination.

I have only read part of the book, but the part that I read was purely internalized sexism. Boys and men don't need women to defend them. Men need to stand up for women. The book is so off-base that I could not read anymore.

This book is totally off base. If the author thinks that boys have the short end of the stick then this person never worked in an environment dominated by the boys club. Men do not have to excel in school, they only need to know how to smoke a cigar and go to strip joints....prerequisites for getting a job.
