If you like Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, Kate Chopin, or other female writers, you'll love Atherton. The White Morning is a perfect novel that reimagines WWI if German women would have taken over Germany. The prose is lively and engaging, the plot is thrilling and imaginative, and there's even a little romance that ends in the most unexpected manner. The novel recounts how German women grow increasingly upset and disgusted with the domineering men in their lives. They slowly form a female revolution and plan to take over Germany. The bomb and destroy war factories and take to the streets. Set against this amazing story, the novel tracks Gisela Doring, the young leader of this revolution, her intellectual development, her ideas, loves, and her ultimate sacrifice for her country and her gender. Atherton is great. Atherton belongs amongst the same praise reserved for Wharton and Cather's WWI novels. Atherton.
