CHAPTER 1

Sasha Ivanov was a killer.

At least, she had been. In another life. Now, her existence was devoted to frivolity. Revelry. Pleasure. Oh, the pleasure. Drinking, dancing, touching, kissing, heated words and touches ... She'd been a devoted servant of her coven for far too long and she was finally free of responsibility and living her life. On her terms. Free of obligation and attachment.

The deep bass echoing through the club thumped in her chest, a pleasant pulse that vibrated outward through her limbs. Her tongue flicked out to close the punctures on the throat of the male she'd latched onto and she rocked back on her heels before turning away. The male — a shifter who obviously thought he was the shit — reached out and grabbed her arm to turn her so her back pressed against his chest as he thrust his hips, grinding against her ass in time to the music.

He dipped his head to hers and said, "Baby, that was intense."

Eh. She'd had better. The shifter's hands wandered from Sasha's torso, around to her stomach and down her thighs. He gave another thrust of his hips and his erection pressed against her ass. Again, not all that impressive. He'd already given her what she wanted. Sasha wasn't interested in his body or anything else.

"I need a drink."

The shifter spun Sasha around in his arms so she faced him. A spark lit behind his eyes, revealing a glimpse of his animal nature. He tilted his neck to one side, a brash invitation as he lowered his head to hers. "I've got what you need, baby. Take as much as you want."

Ugh. She fought the urge to roll her eyes. She'd had her fill of this male, thank you very much. He cupped the back of her neck with his palm to urge her closer. Idiot. She could drink him dry and leave him for dead in the middle of the dance floor without even batting a lash. And if he didn't quit trying to force her to his throat, she might do just that. Sasha braced her palms against his chest and pushed away with enough force to let him know she meant business.

"Unless you've got Jose Cuervo running through your veins, you don't, in fact, have what I need." Sasha stepped back. "Go find some other ass to grind against. I'll catch up with you later." Try never. Sasha kept her thoughts to herself as she turned and left the shifter on the dance floor. She didn't know his name, and frankly, she wasn't interested in learning it.

"So. Bored."

Sasha collapsed onto the bar with dramatic flair to emphasize her words. It was still early, only two in the morning, and she was nowhere close to calling it a night. The L.A. club scene never slowed down — especially in the supernatural world. It's not like there was a shortage of entertainment, but she'd grown restless of the party scene and of males like the shifter she'd left out on the floor who thought they were special because they'd managed to hook up with one of a handful of vampires in existence. The thrill was gone. It had lost its appeal months ago. Sasha needed something new to excite her.

"Have another drink." Ani, the sylph who tended bar at Onyx — one of three exclusively supernatural bars in the city — had become Sasha's closest friend. Ani's carefree, wild streak appealed to Sasha. She was always up for anything, any time.

"Ugh. My eyes are floating."

Sasha had been guzzling cocktails for most of the night and had glutted herself on enough blood to keep her sated for at least a week. Thanks to her supernatural metabolism, the alcohol burned out of her system before she could reap its benefits. The blood, on the other hand, gave her a nice buzz that left her feeling pleasantly lightheaded. Even with all the feels, Sasha couldn't drink another drop. She could find someone to fuck or go to another club or hit a quiet bar or two, but what was the point? She didn't have the energy to kick anyone out of her bed at sunrise and she wasn't going to find any entertainment anywhere else that was better or worse than what she could find at Onyx. Gods, she was restless.

"I'm so tired of this scene. There's got to be something more entertaining than drinking, dancing, and hooking up."

Ani gave her a wry smile. "Are you telling me you're tired of gorgeous males throwing themselves at you every night?"

Huh. She guessed she was. Sasha had always been the quiet one. Reserved. Responsible. Dead serious in her role as head of security for her coven and then later, co-ruler. When her maker, Saeed, had left on his quest to find his mate, it had been Sasha's breaking point. For too long she'd put others' needs and happiness before hers. Not anymore. She'd decided it was time to be selfish. To live her life for herself. She had a lot of time to make up for, damn it. She refused to live with any more regrets.

Sasha didn't reply to Ani's teasing question. She just didn't have the energy. She loved the club scene. Enjoyed being a carefree party-girl. But the thrill was sort of gone. She'd jumped from one rut to another and it was time once again for a change.

Ani let out a long-suffering sigh. "Gods, you're hard to please." She followed up the comment with her trademark snarky smile. "I'm off in an hour. If you don't think it'll kill you to wait, someone told me about an underground scene that's picking up a ton of traction. We could go check it out."

Sounded promising. "What kind of underground scene?"

Ani grinned. "Supernatural Thunderdome."

Sasha snorted. "Like a fight club? I thought that sort of thing quit being edgy when MMA went mainstream."

Ani slid a shot, a Stella, and the cocktail she'd just mixed across the bar to the waitress, who loaded it all on her tray. "Please. No one cares about a bunch of humans knocking each other around. This is like MMA on steroids. Fight to the death."

High stakes for sure. But as creatures who could take a ton of damage without feeling so much as a pinch, Sasha figured it wouldn't be worth it without raising the stakes. No doubt the atmosphere would be wild and dangerous. She needed something to shake her out of her comfort zone. Something to get the blood pumping in her veins. Something that made her feel a little unsafe.

"I'm in."

"Good." Ani grabbed a shot glass and artfully poured three levels of different liquors into the glass before sliding it toward Sasha. "Tastes just like an oatmeal cookie."

Sasha downed the shot. It was okay. A little too sweet, but it did taste a lot like an oatmeal cookie. "Not too bad."

"Go dance and kill some time," Ani said with a laugh. "We'll be out of here in an hour."

Sasha pushed away from the bar and turned toward the dance floor. No sign of the shifter she'd blown off, which was good. Rather than hit the dance floor, though, Sasha headed for the door.

The sidewalk was almost as crowded as the inside of the club. Eager partygoers lined up down the street, waiting for an opportunity to be let inside. At the corner, a guy with a guitar belted out his version of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You," nodding as passersby dropped bills or coins into his open guitar case. At the opposite end of the block, a couple of hookers fought over something. Thanks to her supernatural hearing, Sasha could have easily eavesdropped, but really, why bother?

The affairs of humans didn't interest her. They never had. Even as a dhampir, Sasha had kept herself separate from humans, careful not to form any entanglements. They were too fragile, their lives too short. Survival had been more important than bothering herself with the rest of the world. Even now, she was an endangered species.

Maybe she wasn't so different from the humans after all. A few centuries ago, when the Sortiari had waged war on the vampires in their misguided quest to manipulate Fate, the vampire race had nearly been eradicated. If not for Mikhail Aristov — the last true vampire — surviving the attacks, the dhampir race would have died off as well. The two races were symbiotic. They needed one another to thrive. When Mikhail finally found his mate and ascended to power, he was able to turn dhampirs into vampires and to replenish their ranks. Sasha was one of ten vampires currently inhabiting the planet. To say their resurgence was tenuous was a bit of an understatement. Especially when rumors circulated that the berserkers who had once been under the Sortiari's control had broken free of their bonds and continued the Sortiari's abandoned quest to obliterate the vampire and dhampir races.

Her existence was far more fragile than she wanted to admit.

And yet, Sasha went out night after night, blatantly flaunting what she was. She drank from the throats of others in the public view, her fangs extended and lips stained crimson. She enjoyed the curious stares, the wonder, the whispered words, and even the fear she instilled in those around her. Sasha lived her life without restraints. Without shame. Without a single thought as to how her brazen actions would affect those in hers and other covens.

Wow. She really had become a selfish bitch. Then again, the soulless had little reason to worry about things like selflessness, duty, or love.

"Ready to roll?"

She turned to find Ani standing at the edge of the sidewalk a few feet away. She'd been so lost in her thoughts, she hadn't realized she'd managed to whittle an entire hour away on the street.

"Ready." Yep, Sasha was totally selfish. Soulless. And she didn't see her attitude changing any time soon.

*
Adrenaline coursed through Ewan Brún's veins. His heart thundered in his chest and his skin tightened on his frame. Power surged through him, anxious for an outlet to release its fury on and he was more than ready to free that power on the poor bastard who was about to fall beneath the weight of his fists.

A berserker didn't need a weapon to be deadly. Ewan himself was a weapon.

"If Gregor or any of the others find out what you're up to, you'll get more than a sound beating."

Ewan glanced at Drew, and let out a derisive snort at his cousin's words of warning. When in the grips of full battle rage, a berserker warlord was nearly invincible. The only creature who stood a chance at an equal fight was another berserker. "You're probably right." Ian Gregor, the self-proclaimed king of their clan, didn't approve of any activities that fell outside of his agenda. Gregor was consumed with his need for vengeance. And he expected every single male who answered to him to be as equally consumed.

Unfortunately, Ewan had lost interest in their leader's vendetta years ago.

"That's why no one's going to find out." Ewan trusted Drew. He wouldn't utter a word about his extracurricular activities.

Beyond the confines of the tiny room they occupied, the raucous cheers of the crowd reached a crescendo. Looked like a winner in the current fight was about to be determined, which meant some miserable son of a bitch was about to take a dirt nap. Ewan didn't subscribe to any particular religious belief. God ... gods ... a higher power ... He didn't believe in any of it. Nature made them what they were and when they kissed their asses good-bye, all that awaited them was nothingness.

Bleak? Maybe. But Ewan's soul was shrouded in bleak darkness.

Tonight was about blowing off some steam and walking away with some cash. The supernatural fighting arena wasn't for the faint of heart. If you entered into its confines you were either confident you'd win, or you had a death wish. Ewan wasn't interested in dying. Nor did he doubt his ability to win. He'd take a hefty purse with tonight's win, and after he gave Drew a small cut — after all, familial obligation was only part of earning his loyalty — Ewan would add it to his stash and be one step closer to his goal.

Freedom.

And not the bullshit version of freedom Gregor had promised them. For centuries they'd been indentured to the Sortiari. The so-called guardians of fate had promised Gregor his revenge if he swore allegiance and fought their war for them. He'd gladly accepted the Sortiari's shackles — bringing what was left of their race with him — only to find the Sortiari's promises were as fickle as Fate itself. They'd done the Sortiari's bidding for centuries until Gregor decided they'd been slaves long enough. The revolt had been quiet and free of violence. No doubt, the director of the Sortiari, Trenton McAlister, didn't want the word to get out that his guard dogs had broken their leashes. Still, rather than gift his brethren with their freedom, Gregor had replaced their collars with shackles of his own making. Each and every remaining member of their clan had pledged his undying loyalty to their clan and their leader. Gregor demanded nothing less.

"You keep winning, Gregor's going to know something's up without either one of us telling him. Word's going to spread. And then what?"

Ewan turned his attention from the roar of the crowd to look at Drew. "Fuck Gregor."

"Big talk, cousin." Drew gave a sad shake of his head. "But if he finds out what you're up to, he'll make you watch as he guts you."

Probably, but neither pain nor Gregor's wrath frightened Ewan anymore.

"I keep winning, and I'll finally have enough money to live my life on my own terms. We both will."

Indentured servitude to the Sortiari hadn't exactly been a lucrative gig. Now free of their so-called protection, the berserkers lived in poverty. Squatting wherever they could find shelter and practically begging for scraps in order to feed themselves. Every spare cent they had went to Gregor to fund his ridiculous vendetta. There were rumors Gregor sat on a small fortune that he refused to share in order to make their lives better. It was rarely talked about, however. No one dared to incite their leader's infamous wrath.

Ewan didn't give a shit about whatever money Gregor did or didn't have. He was on the path to independence and there was no turning back.

"Who am I fighting tonight?" Ewan usually gave little thought to who he'd go up against. Berserkers sat at the top of the supernatural food chain. That he'd come out the victor was practically guaranteed. His mind was restless tonight, though. His nerves stretched taut as a tingle of anticipation raced down his spine. And he didn't like it one fucking bit.

"Fae," Drew replied with disinterest. "Not sure what kind."

At least his opponent would give Ewan a challenge. Shifters and werewolves were strong, but he'd yet to find one stronger than him. Magic wielders were certainly tricky, but without their magic lacked the physicality necessary to overpower him. Fae, in most instances, possessed both magic and strength. They could be both quick and nimble. Ewan's prize money wouldn't be easily won tonight. He liked that.

"At least it'll be interesting." When the crowd was entertained, it raised the stakes. More money changed hands, which meant more cash in Ewan's pockets.

Drew chuckled. "You've got that right."

Ewan did little to prepare himself for the fight. No wraps to cover his knuckles, no protection of any kind. Why bother? He healed almost instantaneously and he didn't feel pain in the same way other creatures did. As far as the supernatural world was concerned, he was a freak of nature. Beyond their comprehension. Feared. Reviled.

And he liked it that way.

Beyond the confines of the room, the crowd broke out into another round of chaotic cheers that refused to wind down. Ewan brought his gaze up to meet Drew's and held it for a moment. A renewed rush of adrenaline raced through his bloodstream, triggering his body's natural response to the impending fight. A resiliency that made him nearly indestructible.

"Looks like you're on."

Ewan bucked his chin in acknowledgment. "Looks like it."

Drew's lips spread into a wry grin. "Well, what are you waitin' for? Get out there and kick a little ass."

He'd do more than that. Ewan headed for the door. Drew held out his fist and Ewan knocked it with his own. He didn't know if the fight would be over quickly, but he did know it would end with him coming out on top.

Ewan walked up the incline of a narrow concrete tunnel that led from the basement of the building to the ground floor where the fights were being held this particular night. The location changed regularly. Each building was protected by magic to deter humans, and likewise reinforced with darker magic to shield them from supernatural authorities who might be interested in shutting them down. Those wards weren't as foolproof, however, which was why secrecy was key. Ewan didn't care about getting busted. He hated to admit it, but his only concern was Gregor finding out. He took his beatings in the battle arena. He wasn't interested in facing off with the most infamous berserker warlord to ever live.

I have enjoyed the last few books in this series and all I can say about this one is WOW. What do we get when we have a fiesty, party animal female vampire and a broody, blood thirsty berserker? A story that is epically sexy, action packed and full of hot, spicy, excitement. And the game these two play is taboo amoung their kind. Liam has a lot to learn and Sasha is just the female to teach him. It's like a twisted tale of Beauty and The Beast I enjoyed it.

This is the first book I have read in this series and I was pleasantly surprised. I was totally expecting the usual paranormal romance fanfare, but was given a new twist. I have been annoyed for some time now by this genre’s reliance on instalove. Not to say that it can not be fun, but for it has been so overused. I’m tired of reading about a couple who met at 8am and by 5pm they are declaring their undying love and jumping in front of bullets for each other, That's a workday not a courtship period. Yes both species have a mate bond, and the couple was instantly attracted to each other and they had sexual chemistry. But they actually spent time together, talked, and got to know each other before declaring their love. Instead of a few days passing, weeks went by. But the story didn’t stagnante because we didn’t need to know all the details of time passing. I also really enjoyed that both characters had full lives. So often one or both leads have nothing of substance in their lives so it's easy for them to just disappear and envelop themselves in their new mate’s life. Both of them had jobs, friends, family, and community that they couldn’t just easily walk away from. They both dealt with external and internal struggles. This book proved that even without instalove, with a reasonable passage of time, and with full if not fulfilling lives the hero and heroine can still have a HEA. One that is truly earned. I also loved the world building and the differing species. I am hooked, and can not wait for the next book in this series.

The Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter is part 6 of the Last True Vampire series and the first book of this series I have read. I had no problem following the storyline of the main couple. I could tell, however, a lot of subplots/ background characters present had further plot clarification elsewhere in the series. This lack of knowledge did cause some minor irritation but could motivate me to start from book one in the series at a later date. Ewan is a berserker, mortal enemies of the vampire race. He is attempting to make money in a fighting ring to the death to get free of his ruthless leader. During a fight, Ewan feels a bond form with Sasha who turns out to be a vampire. The couple must come to terms with their relationship, confront the hatred their races have for each other and decide if they can have a relationship. The world building present in this story is quite enjoyable. There are several races of supernatural beings which I appreciate in an urban fantasy/ paranormal romance. It keeps everything from getting stale. I would like to learn more about several of the background characters. I haven't read many stories where a berserker played a prominent role. It was an interesting interpretation of their race. The mating bond of the vampire was a unique approach I appreciated. I am partial to forbidden love, and here it was handled well. There was a great deal of chemistry between them, which made their distrust in each other that much more suspenseful. Ewan could be a little overbearing, but he is a berserker, so it fits. And I tend to enjoy more aggressive males in romance. In the end, everything played out as it should in any HEA novel, but I did like the process of getting there. All opinions are my own and may not match that of others. I encourage all readers to come to their own conclusions. I voluntarily received an ARC copy of this book through NetGalley.

The Wicked Vampire is the sixth installment in Kate Baxter’s Paranormal romance series Last True Vampire, published under St. Martin’s Press. This series can be read as a stand-alone without feeling lost by the storyline. The plot was well written, the story of two souls, unlucky to be engrossed in each other, must find a way to keep their attraction a secret. Until one mishap on Ewan part brought the secret to the attention of his king. Now, Ewan must find some way to keep Sasha and the one she loves alive from the King; he, himself was trying to escape from. The chemistry between the two main characters of Ewan and Sasha was felt throughout the story. The story has a steady pace and will keep reader well entertained until the end. The part I enjoyed the most was when you thought the everything was lost, though there is discord in every family it is family that will have your back in any situation. Though this series is slated to be a six book series, this book concluded like it had a lot of stories to tell. The Wicked Vampire is a book I will recommend to any readers of the Paranormal who enjoys being entertained and who is fond of strong female characters and a well-written storyline.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! This is the 6th book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. While it is not mandatory to read the series in order, it does make it more if you do! I hope you know what I mean! I couldn’t put this book down. I was already feeling for Sasha in the last book, so I loved that this was her story. She had to have a unique mate to thrill her and cause all sorts of trouble for both of them along the way. They both had some communication issues and trouble figuring it all out while both resisted along the way. So they had vampire trouble, berserker trouble, and don’t forget demon trouble. This is an action-packed book, and I loved every moment of it! I highly recommend to any vampire fans who love mixed worlds (fae, vamp, shifter, demon, berserker, and mage included) that are full of action and intrigue to keep you enthralled in the book!!!

Romeo and Juliet - berserker and vampire style! Don’t let this being the sixth in series put you off reading this. I hadn’t realised it and haven’t read any of the earlier stories but I still found this a very enjoyable paranormal romance with quite a few twists to make it a delightfully different read. In this paranormal existence, the powerful berserkers have eliminated most vampires and Sasha Ivanov is one of the few still surviving. She’s very much a loner, but still party girl out for the next thrill. When she discovers a supernatural fight club she discovers one of the fighters is her soul mate - Ewan Brún. The only problem is he is a berserker . . . . Their attraction is mutual, hot and forbidden! Can they resist each other? Can they trust each other?  They should be mortal enemies but will love find a way to bring them together and breakdown barriers that will thwart them? What an exciting - and steamy - read this proved to be. The angst and turmoil of going against all they’ve been brought up to believe is portrayed brilliantly. The scene building is brought to life in the descriptions, making the reader feel like a witness to the unfolding events. This is a Romeo and Juliet type romance, bringing together two people from opposing forces. There’s much still to be resolved in future but this worked well as a standalone - I need to read the earlier books once I’ve got my tbr pile down to a more manageable size! Meanwhile, I’ve found another author I need to keep an eye out for! I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Is their love strong enough to defeat the gathering forces of darkness that threatens to destroy them both? Review: This is definitely an opposites attract story. Mortal enemies, berserker, Ewan and vampire, Sasha tether at first sight. What comes after that is a whirl-wind romance of trying to overcome themselves and just about everyone else to find a HEA. The story is filled with action as everyone is fighting and manipulating others to take care of their own agendas.`The one thing I have to say is that there are so many characters in this story you really have to pay attention to keep up. Also, I would highly recommend reading the series in order to help with your reading enjoyment and the continuing story line. As for Sasha and Ewan, I loved reading about their trying to come to terms with their mating and their feelings for each other. They are super hot together and the intimate scenes really heat up the page. Not sure whose story is up next but cannot wait to find out. 3.5Stars *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*

DNF @31% I'm so bummed!!! I was literally loving the heck out of this book. The characters were dynamic, the plot had delightful twists here and there, and the chemistry was intense. And then I reached a scene 30% of the way in... I just couldn't continue. My current head space would not let me read this scene and keep my respect for Ewan. I stopped, cold turkey. I feel like this series has a lot of potential, though, and I'm still interested in reading other books in the series. This one, however? I can't recommend

imaginative, fast paced tale THE WICKED VAMPIRE is the sixth instalment in Kate Baxter’s contemporary, adult LAST TRUE VAMPIRE erotic, paranormal romance series. This is vampire Sasha Ivanov, and berserker Ewan Brun’s story line. THE WICKED VAMPIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout the series. SOME BACKGROUND: Six hundred years earlier the Sortiari and the Beserkers had all but wiped out the vampire race from existence as retribution for the vampires killing most of the Beserkers female population. The Beserkers became the mindless killers, enslaved by the Sortiari, and are now seeking retribution for sins of the past. Told from several third person perspectives including Sasha and Ewan THE WICKED VAMPIRE follows the building but forbidden relationship between newly turned vampire Sasha Ivanov, and berserker/underground fighter Ewan Brun. For hundreds of years the berserkers have been at war with the vampires-mortal enemies who have all but wiped one another off the face of the earth-only to come face to face with the unlikeliest of matings between a vampire and a berserker. Sasha Ivanov knows that Ewan Brun is her mate when the male ‘tethered’ our heroine, returning her soul but the berserker species has been without females for hundreds of years, and the likelihood of Ewan recognizing his mate is a very low probability. As the relationship between our couple begins to build, threats against our heroine find Ewan willing to give up his life to save the woman with whom he is falling in love. THE WICKED VAMPIRE follows several paths including the ongoing struggle of the berserker warlord Ian Gregor and his need for retribution and revenge, and his imprisonment of Rin, the mage. The Demon nation intends to control the berserker population by destroying our hero, one slice at a time. The relationship between Ewan and Sasha is fated by DNA and blood but Ewan is unaware of the reasons why he is sexually and emotionally attracted to our story line heroine. Alpha and over-protective Ewan intends to keeps Sasha away from other males or outside threats to their growing relationship. The $ex scenes are numerous, erotic and intense. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Sasha’s cover leader Saeed Almasi and his mate Cerys Bain; fellow vampires Diego and Bria; werewolf Lucas; Ewan’s cousin Drew self-proclaimed kind of the berserker clan Ian Gregor, as well as his cousin and second in command Gavin. THE WICKED VAMPIRE is a fast paced, spirited story line; an imaginative tale about mortal enemies pushed together by fate and love; about the tragedy of betrayal and hundreds of years of retribution and revenge. The premise is energetic; the romance is emotional; the characters are passionate and hurting.

"The Wicked Vampire" is an incredibly steamy fae Romeo and Juliet. We follow Sasha, a vampire, and Ewan, a berserker, in alternating third person limited points of view. Vampires and berserkers are mortal enemies, as vampires killed all female berserkers and then the berserkers sought to kill all vampires (and have eliminated most of them). Ewan is locked in a fight to the death (as part of a fae fight club) when Sasha and he see each other and are instantly attracted. A little more than simple attraction is happening as the mating bond has slipped into place. Sasha detects it immediately when her soul is returned. Now, they both must navigate their kinds' prejudices and plots to be together. This is a paranormal romance which is heavy on the sexual content and less so on the plot. There are some really steamy scenes that start early and continue frequently throughout the book. The overall plot is left to the wayside as a result. That being said, I think it just depends on what you're in the mood for, and this certainly delivers on hot and heavy done well. I will also note that Sasha is on the receiving end of some sexual harassment by other fae for readers who are sensitive. Overall, it's a solid paranormal romance that works as a stand alone (despite being in a series). Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This is the first book by Kate Baxter that I have read and I got it through NetGalley. It was enjoyable, passionate (refreshingly so due to my most recent NetGalley reads), had strong characters, an interesting plot, a detailed conflict and villain, and the emotional turmoil that I am so hungry for in my romances. The characters had obstacles they had to overcome in order to get to their happily ever after, and it kept me hungry for more. I will definitely go back and read more from this series from the start since this is book 6 in the series. Loved Ewan, his character and personality appealed to me a lot, and Sasha was strong enough to be his match in everything, yet still have a vulnerability that Ewan had to win over in the end. Loved the whole story from start to finish.

This is book 6 in the Last True Vampire series. It's about Sasha Ivanov, a vampire created by Saeed from the last book, and Ewan Brun, a Berserker under the rule of Gregor. Sasha has finally realized that her feelings for Saeed were never going to be reciprocated. And since her turning (and this realization) she has gone wild. Turning into a party girl just looking for the next thrill, the next thing to get a charge out of her life. So her and a new friend go to a fight club just looking for the next good time so she can feel alive. And promptly gets tethered to a Berserker, one of the vampires mortal enemies! Ewan is in the fight club for his own reasons that have nothing to do with vampires. He is just as drawn to Sasha as she is to him, only he doesn't realize that it is anything more than just being attracted to her. This book was good. I wasn't quite as taken with Sasha as I was with previous characters in the series. Parts of it were slow for me as well. Sasha just seemed to be stuck on her feelings in the past (that were never returned or even acted on) and started doing things completely out of her normal character. With that being said though, I still liked it. Sasha and Ewan together were HOT! And the way they came together to understand that they truly were meant for each other and they truly cared about each other was great! This book also helped push the bigger story ARC along, which was also great in my opinion. I can't wait to read a book about Lucas, and after reading this one I also want a book about Ewan's cousin Drew! All in all, a good book!

Let me first start off saying I have not read any other book in this series. You can read this book as a stand alone though I did not know what everything the book was talking about but it did not deter from the book at all. I'm pretty sure this book has every supernatural creature in it. This book is about Sasha finding her mate. Her mate is not what everyone else thinks should be her mate but he is the exact right person for her. There is violence, sex scenes and romance along with a story to pretty much save the supernatural kind. I did enjoy this book and would others in this series. *Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this for my honest opinion*

I am a huge paranormal romance fan largely for the imaginations of the authors who write in this genre. I can now add Kate Baxter to my list of go-to’s for PNR. I really liked this book. The storyline had a great flow largely in part to the well thought and well developed characters that just kept everything moving at a nice pace. It’s a lot of fun actually and our H/h, Ewan and Sasha had incredibly sizzling hot chemistry. This made for some super hot and steamy scenes. They were so good together even though in reality they should not have been. Sasha never backs away from danger and Ewan is just gob-smacked and powerless to resist Sasha. But that’s love and attraction, it can’t always be put into a nice neat little box. I know there are many books I need to go back in read in this series but I feel as though this book stood on its own just fine.

I’m a fan of the forbidden and what can be more forbidden than finding your mate in the species that is determined to wipe out your race? A Romeo and Juliette story vampire style. The Beserkers are interesting to me and the author just amped up there appeal through Ewan and changed the way I would like to see the outcome of this series. I no longer hope for the Beserkers to be wiped out. I’m really curious now what Gregore did to bring the wrath down on his race from the vampire he was working with all those years ago. If it was mentioned in a previous book, I don’t remember but I’m thinking it will be one of the reveals towards the end. I would love to see Gregore’s downfall and for the rest of the clan to break free from him. There are a lot of characters to this series. A lot of pieces to the puzzle and you will want to read this series in order or you’re gonna be lost. This was another great addition to the series. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Romance for paranormal enemies… This is the sixth book in the Last True Vampire series that can be read as a stand-alone. It seems that lately I start books mid series so to speak but the author did provide enough information to enable the reader to follow the intricately woven background plot fairly well, the read would be enhanced if you’ve read the previous stories. Lost when her soul was ripped from her being, Sasha Ivanov was a dhampir made vampire to replenish the race by one she respected and cared for who left her to fend for herself during the transition. She’s been haphazardly flitting through existence until she ran into a berserker and her soul is tethered once more, that is what a mate does. It’s a cruel twist of fate that her mate is the enemy of her race yet she can’t stay away from him after their first encounter, he’s an obsessive drug to her system. The berserker doesn’t seem to feel the connection between them and all she’s left with is the pleasure he can provide. Is that enough for one who has known heartbreak and really needs to matter to her mate? Berserkers are one of the deadliest races, brutal fighters to the core. Ewan Brún is one of them, enslaved to the strongest of his kind who is out for vengeance against all in the vampire race when only few were guilty of sin against them. Planning escape from that servitude he fights in the underground paranormal arenas to put money aside to accomplish his goal. One night a vampire shows up and he’s inexplicably drawn to his mortal enemy but when in her presence the last thing he wants to do is kill her. There is something atypical about this sexy vampire and he doesn’t know what it is, the berserkers lost much through the ages including it appears their racial memory. She tells him they’re mates and he doesn’t believe it and sets out to use her for information but the more time he spends with her he feels the instinctual pull between them that his race had long forgotten, that he now wants to keep her and protect her is a serious dilemma and one which could cost him his life. This paranormal world has serious political racial intrigue with many plots in motion of which only a few are seen here but others were implied, there are multiple points of view and lots of action and suspense to captivate the reader. There’s an age’s old vendetta driven by an obsessed madman, a romance born of the pairing of mortal enemies, demons really upset about losing money on the fights and much more. In this world magic exists as do witches, vampires, dhampirs, berserkers, shifters, sylphs, demons, fae, and don’t forget the unsuspecting humans. As a reader I found myself wanting to read the stories missed as I was fascinated by the characters and depth of the storyline and felt there were things previously told that I should have known. I would have loved it if the author had included a recap of events, regardless this was a most enjoyable read. An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley. 4.5 stars

This is the first book I've read but the sixth book in this series. I had no problem following along with the story, but I truly wished I had started with the first book. There were things mentioned in this book that I missed from not reading the previous books in the series. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the flow of the story a lot. There was never a dull moment in this story between the characters. The action started from the very beginning and lasted until the very last page. It left me wanting the next book in this series because there will definitely be more; there's still a lot of unresolved issues and problems between the characters within this story. I loved every moment between Sasha (a vampire) and Ewan (a berserker). Their sexual chemistry was off the charts and they had no problem with their sexual desires for each other. I will say that this was one hot read! As forbidden as their love was, they were so right for each other, they just had to realize that in their own time. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I plan on going back and staring this series from the very beginning because it was a great paranormal read. I want to know what happened in the previous books between some of the characters in this book, because this story and this series has a lot more going on than the characters just finding their mates. I recommend everyone giving this series a try but I would also recommend starting this series from the beginning.

The Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter Last True Vampire #6 Having read books 4 and now 6 of this series my gut feeling is that to truly enjoy the series it would be better to begin with book one and read consecutively. I did enjoy this book and followed the storyline of Sasha the vampire and Ewan the berserker BUT there were many names and couples dropped that I had little or no idea of or how they played into the storyline. What I liked: * The bond between the two was unexpected and something they had no control over * Both H/h were strong characters * The eventual confrontation between Saeed and Sasha – semi-confrontation * The ties that some of the characters had with one another * Ewan’s regard for his cousin Drew * The growth in the relationship between Sasha & Ewan What I didn’t like: * The domineering attitude of Ewan at first * Fights to the death idea * Sasha being so “weak” in some ways * Not knowing who all the players were and how the side-story-threads were to be woven together or who the people actually were * The demons * Ian Gregor – top dog Berserker (hope he has a reason to be such a scumbag) Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars
