Reviewed by Kim Anisi for Readers' Favorite The Wisdom of Folktales: Lessons on How to Live Happily Ever After by Steven Gregory is a mix of educational book and fairy tale collection. In between chapters about how fairy tales can be applied to our everyday lives and lessons we can learn from them, the reader can read some examples of fairy tales from all over the world. This turns the book into quite a varied read as you don't get bored with just "talk", but also get some lovely stories in between - and some of them you might not even know yet. I enjoyed reading The Wisdom of Folktales: Lessons on How to Live Happily Ever After by Steven Gregory, especially because of the variety of fairy tales that were included as samples of fairy tales that stand for a certain aspect of life. Steven Gregory not only talks about fairy tales we grew up with in the Western world, but also introduces us to interesting tales from other continents, e.g. Africa and Asia. I would recommend this book to everybody who enjoys fairy tales and who would like to learn more about how they are a mirror of real life and what lessons we can learn from them - from how you can turn being different into an advantage, and how you can win even if you are weaker and slower than your opponents. It is a book for people of all ages as everybody can learn something from fairy tales - we never get too old for them!

This is a really enjoyable read! I would recommend The Wisdom of Folktales for anyone who enjoys fairy tales and ancient stories. What makes Gregory's work unique is that he revives old tales and directly connects them to our daily lives today, pointing out how these stories address love, kindness, jealousy, ambition, and other aspects of life. He works with stories and themes we can all relate to. I enjoyed reading this as an adult, and think it is great for young people as well. The Wisdom of Folktales is fun and thought-provoking!
