Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 4-8 Hilton's brief biography reveals Hoover's personality during his boyhood and college years. Hoover was born of Quaker parents in Iowa. His family and friends, teachers and professors are all introduced through anecdotes chosen to offer a glimpse into the life of the 31st president. The qualities that led to Hoover's rise in the academic world of his early life served him well when he was a congressman and president. The book is clearly written and well organized. It will be accessible to children who have little or no background knowledge of this period in American history. The weakest feature of the book is the pencil illustrations, which are adequate but not distinctive. This book will appeal to readers who want a book about an American boy who ``made good.'' Gayle W. Berge, Creswell High School, Oreg.
