The Wrong Man by Lane Hayes

A Right and Wrong Story

Successful owner of an upscale boutique in fabulous West Hollywood, Brandon Good swears by his personal edict to “live in the present.” After a bad breakup, he agrees to dog-sit to keep his mind off his ex. Never did he expect the dog to belong to a man from his past, the only man to ever truly break his heart.

When Jake Westley relocates to join the WeHo fire department, the last thing he anticipates is reuniting with his secret high school love. Thrilled with the prospect of reconnecting with Bran, Jake feels no guilt in using his charming old dog as an unwitting matchmaker. As he and Bran rekindle their friendship, it becomes clear the intense attraction they once felt is stronger than ever. But as hard as they try to leave the past behind, painful memories resurface. Bran will have to confront his fears and consider the possibility that the man he swore was absolutely the wrong one might be perfect after all.

This is book two in the Right and Wrong Stories and can be read as standalone; however I would read in order to completely enjoy the story.  Brandon, the owner of BGood and BFF of Luke, has been out of sorts since the breakup of his last boyfriend and Luke and Michael making everything official. He’s blaming it on the spring weather in So. California but knows that not the case.   Then out of nowhere his high school love and heartbreak shows up! What a great story, Brandon always cool, calm, live in moment just had his world turned upside down. And the guy that did it was none other than the one guy deep down he never stopped loving, Jake.  The details we get as Brandon and Jake and Mack (the dog) start rebuilding the friendship are just amazing. I’ve never wanted to visit an area more. You can feel Brandon’s pain and unease throughout at the same time you just want to tell Jake; don’t give up, this time! And then you have the secondary cast, that gives a perfect fit, from the stalker ex, the BFF that only wants what’s best, to the over the top ’mother’. Just a brilliant second book, let’s hope we get a third?  I was given this book in exchange for an honest review by Crystals Many Reviews

This book is about Brandon Good and Jake Westley. They have a history that goes back to high school when experimenting and being cool was the thing to do. Now, can you risk that kind of rejection again? Brandon has a policy against even talking or being friends with his exes. Then there is the cute dog factor. Mack is amazing to take care of. Sweet as ever, and needs both Jake and Bran. Jake is basically hot and sweet as well. Bran is having a hard time saying no to him. Before they know it - they are friends again. Whatever was in the past can stay there. Or will it? Can Brandon get past the pain that still haunts him? Is there really joy in giving love a second chance? I found this book to be delightful! It has excellent character development and moves right along at a good pace. The honesty and real life experiences make this book a god reference on how to love someone. Sound advice is always welcome! Brandon and Jake try to mix lives and love with their careers, friends, and the ever loveable Mack. Where most books get sappy about second chances, I found this story to be moving and realistic.

I loved this story! It was beautifully written. Funny but at times poignant and sweet.  Brandon and Jake had off the charts chemistry! And the dog!! Mack is the perfect addition.  He didn't overwhelm the story.  He just brought everything together.  I adored the first book too and I'm really hoping Alex gets  the next story.  Highly recommend!

This is the second in Right and Wrong Stories. I didn't read the first but I didn't feel lost. It can be read as a stand-alone. Brandon Goods is the successful owner of an upscale antiques boutique. He is recovering from a breakup when Jake re-enters his life. Jake Westley is a fireman, recently moved to the West Hollywood aka WeHo area, and brings along his gentle Labrador that he gained full custody of after a breakup. This is my first time reading Lane Hayes. This second chance at romance was a heart-warming journey of letting someone back in to your life, and heart. The author does a good job of incorporating humour and a chemistry that you can feel through the pages and will have you rooting for this sweet, sexy second chance couple! Beautiful writing. I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads. Reviewer: Kimberley
