Mark McAllister spent his boyhood in the East Texas oil fields, the setting for his first novel There is a Wideness. He attended Rice University (B.A. in Physics), the University of Texas at Austin (M.S. Electrical Engineering), and University of Houston (Ph.D. Electrical Engineering). He and his wife and son are residents of Austin, Texas, where he is a member fo the Writer's League of Texas.
