There's a Yacht More to Life: Loving, Working and Playing in Paradise

We wanted more out of life after forty. This is our story - a baby-boomer couple who abandoned our San Diego corporate lifestyle, and all our "stuff," for a life in the Caribbean. At times, we lowered our expectations to the depths of our souls. Spanning twenty-five years, the transition from minimum wage at a pirate bar living in a grass hut to handling millionaire yacht owners, make hurricanes look like child's play. We weathered twelve hurricanes and hosted 100-plus yacht charters, outlived three firings, endured five resignations, even survived life in a van without divorcing--all the while looking for that perfect job. There's a yacht more to the story that kept this romance underway at full speed. Our story might just compel you to revisit your own dreams, seize opportunities and, maybe, just maybe, find your own paradise.

About the Author

Cynthia, a public relations professional from the Midwest and Winston, a construction company owner from New Brunswick, Canada, met on the beach in 1990 in La Jolla, CA. Lured by an ad they saw vacationing in the Caribbean, they traded their ocean-side condo for a grass hut, running a pirate bar on a tiny island-then moved to U.S. Virgin Island's Hassel Island, where they raised the population to a whopping nine. Acquiring dual U.S. Coast Guard Captain's Licenses and transitioning from island landlubbers to fulltime professional yacht captains, Winston and Cynthia have crewed luxury sailing and motor yachts in the South Pacific, Pacific, Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Intracoastal Waterway. They've hosted more than 100 week-long yacht charters and are well-known throughout the industry, having worked in it now for almost twenty years.
