Overview

There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road but Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos by Jim Hightower

Revised, and with a New Introduction by the Author

"I am an agitator, and an agitator is the center post in a washing machine that gets the dirt out."
—Jim Hightower

Hightower is mad as hell and he's not going to take it anymore! He's also funny as hell, and in this book he focuses his sharp Texas wit, populist passion, and native smarts on America's political, economic, scientific, and media establishments. In There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road But Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos, Hightower shows not only what's wrong, but also how to fix it, offering specific solutions and calling for a new political movement of working families and the poor to "take America back from the bankers and bosses, the big shots and bastards."

"If you don't read another book about what's wrong with this country for the rest of your life, read this one. I think it's the best and most important book about out public life I've read in years."
—Molly Ivins, author of Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?

"When do we get to vote for Jim Hightower for president? Will somebody please tell me? When do we get to vote for Jim Hightower for president?."
—Michael Moore, author of Downsize This!

"Listen to Jim Hightower. His is a two-fisted, rambunctious voice unafraid to speak truth to power, eloquently and clearly...He's one of the best."
—Studs Terkel

About the Author

Jim Hightower is a political spark plug who has spent 25 years battling Washington and Wall Street on behalf of working families, consumers, environmentalists, small businesses and just plain folk. He confesses that he has been a practicing politician, serving two terms as Texas' elected agriculture commisioner. In addition to his popular radio broadcasts, his speechifying and all-around agitating, he publishes the biweekly political newsletter The Hightower Lowdown. His previous bestseller was There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road but Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos.

This is The best book on politics that I have ever read. Hightower speaks the gospel truth. Buy it and enjoy, but beware, some of the sections, especially 'Time Magazine Is Killing Us' which I recommend everyone read, will shock, surprise and even disgust you, as in the case of the above example. But the book is useful, very funny, well-written, meticuously researched, informative, and generally very good. Also, check out the sequel, If The Gods Had Meant Us To Vote, They Would Have Given Us Candidates, and the authors website, www.jimhightower.com, to learn more about what I call the Populist Revolution. Read it and enjoy!

Jim Higthtower hits the nail on the head with this funny and insightful book that reveals the truth behind big corporations, media, and conservative agendas. YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING. If you are like me and the rest of Americans, feeling that somehow you have been left out of the equation when politicians are lobbying for the American people, READ THIS BOOK! I truly believe that if this book were read by every American just once, they would take back our country from the politicians and the multinational corporations that own them. This is a revolutionary masterpiece that incorporates humor and politics as well as informs. Just read the book. Then you will truly understand the depths that our political system has sunk and I promise you, you will look at politics completely different. Awesome book for the person who cares about the country they live in. Five stars!!! I would give it more if I could.

Scarry and funny at the same time. The US is going down the tubes but at least we get a few good books out of it.
