Despite the fact that he's still in his teens -- and blessed (or cursed) with puppy-dog good looks that threaten to make him a pinup boy -- Paolo Nutini is anything but a processed pop star. Already a platinum seller in the U.K., the 19-year-old Scottish native has a preternaturally soulful voice -- a burnished tenor that's occasionally reminiscent of Steve Winwood -- and a knack for sounding at home in surroundings both lush and stripped down. He takes the latter approach a little less often, but when he does -- as on the fiery acoustic closer, "Alloway Grove" -- he brings forth a slightly saltier, more acerbic facet of his personality. That makes for a nice counterpoint to the disc's more heavily orchestrated pieces, such as the swelling, deceptively dark "Last Request," on which he dips deep for a wounded tone that homes in on the heartstrings with eagle-eyed precision. For the bulk of These Streets, Nutini concentrates on matters of the heart, and being the incurably romantic type, most of his musings are of the woeful sort. The sonic range -- which takes in everything from the bluesy strains of "Loving You" to the doe-eyed folk-pop of "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" -- keeps the disc from slipping into monochrome. It also bodes well for Nutini's future -- after all, once he's old enough to have a beer Stateside, his outlook (and his sound) is bound to open up even more.

I bought this as soon as it was released, and I completely love it. I'm sure I play it every day and have learned all the lyrics. Can you believe how young Nutini is? He seems so much older in his music. I can't wait for another CD, but I can't imagine it topping this one! I'm starting to hear his music everywhere: movies, etc. I heard him this morning in the background of Good Morning America. I'm happy for him, but at the same time, I loved it when I felt like no one else knew of him (my little secret). Silly me. He's a star, a gift to the world.

So much talent with this generation of artists...we see Jonny Lang, John Mayer, James Morrison and Paolo Nutini...many more...Nutini is rich with originality and a unique flavorful voice that sets him apart and in a league all his own. As far as the critique by Marissa Brown...she has missed her mark I am afraid and lacks ability to move away from the focus of writing a stuffy and almost snobbish commentary failing to reference the obvious metamorphosis and unfolding of brilliance we are witnessing here.

Very few cd(s) are truly listenable from start to finish -- This one is! It's great. The only critique is - it's too short!

Paolo Nutini makes a huge splash with his debut album, These Streets. Paolo displays a natural talent for singing and songwriting; and his voice is rich and full of masculine warmth. Just one listen to this CD proves it!
