About the Author

Bill Callies was born in Iowa but spent most of his life in Minnesota. He worked in the Twin Cities in the floor covering business and owned Modern Floors in St. Louis Park. He took the test to be a game warden at age 43. Taking a huge cut in pay to pursue his dream of becoming a warden, he moved his wife and daughter and son from Edina to Waskish. After he retired, he wrote wonderful stories about his adventures as a warden and they are now printed in two volumes. He was a Minnesota game warden from 1960 to 1980 at Waskish, Crosby-Ironton, Orr and Baudette. Bill died in 2003 and since he had given his family instructions to wait until after he died to publish them, the first volume was available in 2006 with the second one available in 2007.

As Mr. Bill Cullens happened to live out my dream career, I may be slightly biased in saying how much I loved this book. I bought it today and finsihed it today as I anxiously looked forward to his next adventure. This is a great book for most age groups, demonstrating the influence one man had over so many people. It is easy to read as it is in 'layman' terms. I enjoyed reading about the conservation past and the impact on the future (and of course living vicariously through Mr. Cullens!). I also enjoyed quite a few chuckles at the expense of the foolish criminals when the witty Cullen outsmarted them. I can't wait to get volume 2 on Thursday!!

I am not a hunting. I am not a fisherman. In fact, I am a vegetarian, but I love this book, and can't put it down. Mr. Callie's stories are fascinating, and are a must read for everyone interesting in the outdoors, or for anyone who likes drama with frequent dashes of humor. Pip
