Michelle St James continues her successful Syndicate series with Thicker Than Water. Set in Boston, this new addition to the syndicate family finds familiar characters from previous books as they introduce us to Bridget Monaghan and Nolan Burke. The story picks up 4 years after Bridget ended her relationship with Nolan. I will be honest, I've always been somewhat leery about reading a 2nd chance-type romance. It takes a particular writing talent for an author to engage the reader in a love story they were not privy to its beginning. I did not in the least feel I missed anything in reading a book that picks up 4 years after a love affair began and ended. The extraordinary Michelle St James spins an action packed, angst filled tale, with a delightfully unexpected cliffhanger. The only disappointment is having to wait for book two!

Thicker Than Water introduces us to Nolan Burke, who is approached by the Syndicate to help takeover the Boston territory. He reluctantly does so in order to protect his ex-girlfriend, Bridget, the love of his life, and his best friend, Will, both of whom work for Seamus O’Brien the present boss of the territory. In order to do this, Nolan has to rejoin the mob that he left years ago to pursue his law career. This first book brings us everything that we have come to expect from Michelle St. James.
