Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

2009 reprint of 1937 first edition. This is one of the best-selling self-help books of all time. Written during the Great Depression, against a backdrop of millions of people out of work and a looming world war, Napoleon Hill's magnum opus held out hope that life could get better. While not considered part of the New Thought movement, Hill drew on many of their concepts and techniques. He prefigured the 'Prosperity Consciousness' of present-day New Age thinkers and a host of motivational writers and speakers have followed in his footsteps.

This book should be on every bookshelf in every home. The principles that are taught in this book "Think and grow Rich" are more about the directions of life than just the collection of riches. This is a book that needs to be digested and not simply read casually. Eternalize this book and you will give your life new direction and meaning.

Napoleon Hill was a consultant living in the White House when FDR was leading the nation through the Great Depression. It was while he was in the White House that Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich. More than twenty years before, Hill was commissioned by the richest man in the world at the time, Andrew Carnegie, to research and develop a philosophy of success so that every person didn't have to learn through the hard process of trial and error every time. Carnegie thought it was a shame that the accumulated know-how of each successful man went the grave with him. Carnegie gave Hill letters of introduction to five hundred of the most successful people in the country - Henry Ford, John Wanamaker, Thomas Edison, and the list goes on - and Hill interviewed these men extensively, sometimes living with them for a time. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I am an expert on what is effective. The principles Hill put in Think and Grow Rich will definitely help you become successful.

This is one of the greatest self-help books ever, back in the the original 1937 text. Next to the Bible, this is my favorite book. I was introduced to Think and Grow Rich when I read former world champion and International Boxing Hall of Famer Ken Norton's autobiography entitled 'Going the Distance.' Norton shared in his book that he read Think & Grow Rich repeatedly and it changed his life. Norton's book states he was given Think & Grow Rich to read after he suffered his first boxing defeat and had to start over. Norton then went on a fourteen fight winning streak that lasted over three years, including a huge upset over Muhammed Ali for the heavyweight title. This is an outstanding book that embodies Andrew Carnigie's philosophy of achievement to help individuals reach their full potential and succeed. Think and Grow Rich is one of the all time greats.

Under organized and specialized knowledge this book explains how a person can assess any lacks of knowledge or weaknesses in making their plan. Henry Ford had next to no education yet at the push of a button could summon the right person to supply him with any amount of knowledge he required. The same is true in todays world with the advent of the internet. The first thing you need is a positive attitude which supercedes any negatives. Nothing is perfect and one can find faults with anything if they so choose.

The thirteen steps presented by Mr. Hill are to the point and very honest. His book is not some egotistical scam for our money, thank goodness. I should think that any one who is supposedly 'down on his luck' needs to purchase this book and maybe redirect his steps.

...want to succeed in life and in business! This is a classic book. Before the so called "success gurus" around today. Napoleon Hill is the ORIGINAL success motivator. I've personally read the book Think And Grow Rich numerous times. I asked for (and received) the original CD of the book so that I could listen to and be inspired while I am driving. I can't imagine anyone listening to this CD and not being inspired! Mr. Hill's story is truly fascinating. If you've never read the need to own the book AND the CD! Surround yourself with his teachings! And do yourself a favor...stick with the original recording. The 21st Century version is okay...but doesn't beat the original.

This book has the plan for achieving more than wealth - for achieving whatever you desire. Certainly, you can apply the principles within with an eye towards creating wealth, but you can apply the same principles towards improving your life, finding a job, getting in shape, whatever you want. When I look back at the things I have accomplished in my life, and the things I have failed to accomplish in my life, I see that I used the principles in this book without even knowing them. Basic fundamental stuff for reaching you goals, whatever they may be, it is well worth the investment.

Think and Grow Rich claims to reveal the secret of Andrew Carnegie's success. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but the secret appears to be something along the lines of 'have a goal and work really hard to meet it.' Hill stresses the importance of a positive mental attitude, and makes a convincing case that one's subconscious mind is at least partially responsible for one's success and failures in life. At times, the book wanders into some unusual territories (armchair psychology, paranormal phenomena) but it was probably considered 'cutting edge' 70 years ago when it was first published. As for the title, it's probably worth mentioning that the concepts imparted by the book don't necessarily have to do with material wealth but could be applied to just about any endeavor.

There are some very helpful recommendations in this book such as visualizing and affirming your success. A positive attitude is considered almighty. But written later, two excellent books, Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman explains the advantages and disadvantages of pessimism and optimism and Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self shows you how to make the most of your thinking, any situation, your life and career. I would read all three books.

I picked this book up on my way to ordering THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON. I figured, it's not that expensive and it has a catchy title. Little did I know that this book would change my life and mindset. I recommended it to everyone I could think of, but only a few jumped on it and were as excited as I was. You will get out of this book what you expect. Be OPEN and prepared to make the ultimate mind shift!

I have owned this book for years, but I recently have discovered another, newer version that is far superior. It is 'Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised' published by Aventine Press. For one thing it is a bigger book, both in size and in pages (412). It turns out that the book that this review is about is an abridged version of the original, something I never knew in all the times I have read it over the years. This smaller version, while good, contains nothing like the additional information in the 'Restored and Revised' version. There is just a ton of fascinating facts and information in the back of the book. In the older book (the plain 'Think and Grow Rich'), the print is difficult to read, there is little space for writing notes. The newer version reads better and by comparison is a far more useful learning instrument. Napoleon Hill's work is probably the most important ever done in the motivational and self-improvement field. Whichever version you read, it will change your life forever.

This book is the bible of success. The copy is a bit sketch at times but for .99 the material is well more than readable. I wish I would have read this sooner. I strongly recommend this book and even bribed some friends and family with new nooks and kindled if they agreed to read it. Well worth the time.
