The Thinker's Thesaurus: Sophisticated Alternatives to Common Words by Peter E. Meltzer

This resource for writers and others interested in building their vocabularies suggests more sophisticated alternatives to common words than those provided in a standard thesaurus. Each entry is accompanied by an example of the synonym's use in a sentence or phrase taken from current print media. Many entries also feature a "clarifier" to help the user be certain of the word's precise definition. Meltzer is a practicing attorney and law professor (Rutgers U.) with a lifelong interest in lexicology. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Deserves more the 5 stars, covers a wide variety of common words, gives recent examples of usage in major publications, the only thesaurus I use and trust, solves the common thesaurus problem of improper usage, if anyone rates this less than 5- it's because they aren't thinkers!

A new approach to looking up just the needed word with a zest of intellectual zing added.

This is my favorite thesaurus to use, and it has come in handy many a time.  Sometimes a simple word just does not do a situation justice! It really is not one for common use, as the words that it brings up are simply not common words, but they can be useful. 5/5 for pure originality!
