I truely loved this book. To me it was thick. Not as in pages but plot. It does boast 246 pages. But as i was saying, it was thick in plot and suprized me. Saying my reading schedule is about 4 hours a night, i normaly would have a book this large done within two nights. Suprizingly, it took me almost 4 to complete! Dont get me wrong though, it is an easy book to understand. Grace's attitude was spot on and spunky. Though there are adult "senes", it was a pretty good ( not saying these were bad, cuase they were HOT, but just sayin it was a little stressful reading about Grace being forced to "submit". ) The middle part of the book did become a little boring with everlasting scenes. It honestly made me nausious. Everybody can agree it does get gross after an eternity of evil forcful acts. Btw, i hope her and Lucean "hit it off" soon if you know what i m sayin.XD wink wink.

Bartender Grace Allen's luck has changed. She sold a ring that she found at a bus stop and it was worth a lot more than a gaudy piece of costume jewellery she presumed it to be. She paid her bills, rent and even has enough to keep for a rainy day. She doesn't give it another thought until the ring, and it's new owner, find her. During another hectic weekend shift at the bar, Grace becomes unusually clumsy when she lays eyes on the very handsome and enigmatic patron, Seth McPhee. When she finally get home, Grace tries in vain to forget Seth, the ring he wore and the power that radiated from him. But the night is far from over as she meets another mysterious and handsome man, Lucian, who tells her the history of the ring, and how she alone can harness it's full power. Grace thinks Lucian is a few bottles short of a six pack, after all, magic rings and supernatural beings are only fairy-tales, right? When she is abducted by Seth, Grace discovers how real these creatures are and how her life has completely changed forever. Alisha Basso takes the reader on an action packed adventure that is a true page turner. It is very well written with a sassy heroine, two male leads (always a plus), vampires, trolls and elves to name a few. This Blood is book 1 of a series, and I will definitely be reading books 2 and 3. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Alisha Basso's "This Blood" (the first book in her Grace Allen series of novels) is a suspenseful, exciting take on the supernatural world. Grace is a waitress at a dive bar, and one day is much like another: get dressed in the too-revealing outfits her boss demands, drive to work (praying her car survives for another day), sling booze for several hours, go home, lather, rinse, repeat. Until she finds a ring just lying in the gutter. Grace pawns it for cash, but soon enough the new owner of the ring shows up at the bar looking for her. It turns out he's a vampire, and not just any vampire, but THE vampire lord, and he's going to use that ring to rule the world. It turns out the ring isn't just a ring; it's got the power of an ancient and nearly extinct race of powerful beings poured into it. And only the last child of that race can awaken the power. You guessed it, that's Grace. Soon she finds herself the prisoner of the vampire lord, along with her best friend and a warlock who tried to warn her about the ring and the vampires. Will Grace come up with a plan to escape Seth, the vampire lord and would-be ruler of the world? Will she figure out how to master the power of the ring? Will she save her friends? You'll have to read the book for yourself to find out. The book is narrated by Grace, and she's got a lively and fun voice. She responds believably, turning at first to pop-culture fantasy references to try and understand the new world she's been plunged into, and slowly getting used to the supernatural all around her without losing her humanity. She's very easy for the reader to identify with as she leads us along in her adventures. It's well-written with clean, clear prose. There's plenty of action, both of the martial and the bedroom varieties, and a well-fleshed out (both figuratively and literally!) cast of supporting characters. It's a fun read, and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

I felt this book was really well written and an entertaining read. The best part (aside from great characters, new ideas and funny dialogue) would be that it is a fun story that is easy to follow but isn't too short. It doesn't drag on and doesn't just stop, you get to really know the characters and get involved with what's going on. There were certain points where I could feel my tension level rising or even laughed out loud, it was that involving. My problem with books like True Blood and Vampire Journals is they are too short, try too hard to be ironic or fall into either a piece about society or a teen read. It's refreshing to read something NEW. I was pleasantly surprised and can not wait to read the next book.
