Overview

In This is Why You Know Me, I recall saving money and dropping my life in 2015 and exploring a journey from Boston, down the east coast, and west to Phoenix in a three-month solo car ride. In twenty-one essays, I anecdotally detail meeting up with estranged family and friends and Couchsurfers, and each of them provided me with 21 stories that I would love to share with you. More than once, I was in cities and towns, hundreds of miles from home, where I knew no one particularly well. Something can be said for not seeing a familiar face for months; something else can be said for only seeing the same faces for a few days before never seeing them again. These stories I've written show myself and readers that this country is whole, but each individual state is almost like it's own unique country.

About the Author

In my humorous and emotional memoir: This is Why You Know Me, I reflect on my decision, at age twenty, to leave school, buy an old car, and travel the country, alone. My journey consisted of me visiting estranged family, getting to know myself better, but most memorably, it consisted of me Couchsurfing. By this, I mean that on eight different occasions, in the three
I was traveling, I stayed with complete strangers, and each of them provided me with a wildly peculiar story.

My book is a traveler's guide of half of the United States, told through the very real world eyes of a pansexual stand-up comic with no real direction. I have been compared to Jack Kerouac, but with the technology of 2015 and a completely different personality. It teaches the readers that there are other options in life that going through the motions of high school, college, and working 9-5 until you retire. It shows that there is more to life. For people who've just graduated high school, college, or are somewhere in between, this book showcases another option for those who feel lost in their own right. Personally, this trip was one of a lifetime, and I learned more than I could ever have imagined about loneliness, acceptance, my own and others sexuality, and what life really has to offer to those who break outside of the framework society has built through social norms

This book is about a journey I took, and stories I have told on many live stages, I have been performing spoken word for a few years and have also been a local radio personality in Lowell, MA for four years, on 91.5 WUML (WUML.org) I have also hosted two comedy-based podcasts. My book has roughly 32,000 words and is a collection of twenty-one essays.
