Intended to help readers who have conquered adversity, this guide offers advice to those ready to focus on new goals but need help figuring out how to “Glide” there.

Working as a library paraprofessional in her son’s school, Drellack found herself unexpectedly single, raising two children, and not making enough money. So when the elementary school’s teacher/librarian announced her pending retirement, the author figured out what credentials she needed to qualify for the job. After a lot of effort juggling responsibilities while completing her degree, she was hired for the position. It appeared to be her dream job, and she met with her boss to discuss increasing her duties. But she was taken aback when he gave her the added responsibility without the corresponding compensation. As the shine wore off on what she thought was her perfect position, Drellack had to recalibrate and define a new road to authentic fulfillment. This manual is for readers who have worked hard to achieve success but now, no longer feeling satisfaction from those accomplishments, want to go in a new direction. The author shows readers how they can “Glide” through a three-step process and attack their goals. The first step is to “Get Clear,” or specifically determine a goal. The next step is to “Get Focused” by choosing a mantra. And the final step is to “Live it Like You Mean It” by embracing that mantra. Some of her advice is valuable, such as having readers write down what they don’t like about their current situations and then chronicle “what floated through” their awareness about what they “do value.” She asserts that this should help them “Get Clear.” But other counsel is uninspired. For example, she tells readers to repeat their mantras out loud several times a day. Almost all of the epigraphs that begin each chapter are from The Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks, so it seems that Drellack’s book was heavily influenced by those two authors’ philosophy. But instead of just echoing that work, this guide offers some useful exercises that will help readers identify their new goals.

A worthy, if sometimes dry, manual for readers who want to forge new paths.
